    Tikka re-barrel for 7prc or 280ai

    Either cartridge may run into OAL problems in a Tikka with factory magazines and heavy bullets, BTW. If you're running 3.56" MDT mags or LA AICS mags (with a chassis or aftermarket bottom metal) then you're fine.

    Middleweight 7mm is the obvious answer. So 280 AI if you want factory ammo availability, 284 Win if you like being a special snowflake. I've got a 9lb Tikka 284 for basically your purposes.

    Welp, I'm in for some brass. At the very least I'm going to try the 6.5 CM conversion. I'll leave the nuclear testing to 45-90, but the appeal to me is potentially everlasting brass even at max (book) loads. Bolt thrust even at 80 kpsi is less than 300 WSM at SAAMI pressure.

    I only tried one load in my 284 Win Tikka with the 168 LRX. At 2.490" CBTO, 50.5 gr H4350 gave me 2770 fps (24" barrel), but got heavy extractor marks. I was getting 80 fps faster and no pressure signs with the 168 ABLR so I gave up on the LRXs. The ABLRs worked great on elk this season, so zero...
