Yes there is a back up power source. But the guy is full of shit, the Spar valves aren't spring operated, they are motor operated. You are correct about the center tanks pumps being override boost pumps. The control of the spar valves and the high pressure shutoff valves are powered by DC power, so with batteries you'll always have power available. It could be possible there was 1 VSFG already on MEL, the other engine craps out (loosing both VSFGs) and then the other one on the first engine dies, having then lost all 4. However the VSFGs don't fail that often. Now if it was CACs we were talking about, well that's a different story. But...- beetroot

As above, water in the fuel is not a problem and happens fairly frequently. The main problem with water contamination is it can lead to the biological growth which can either block fuel filters, or worse cause corrosion in the tanks. I've always been skeptical of the whole long gong concept for exactly this reason. As much as people like to shoot long range, I feel like you'd be better of excepting the limitations of 22lr and just limit to 200 meters. The likelihood of all four EMPs (without full AC power loss) is damn near impossible. The loss of all hydraulic systems in general is extremely unlikely.
