    Another good weekend with some heavy hitters using GOV toys. Put five rounds in a 500lb+ boar but never recovered him. Kept thinking he was a cow instead of a pig so threw off our game.

    Night Vision IR LED Light Bars/Cubes for driving

    I’ve got the UNV 850 cubes on my brush guard. Really only use when going through gates on really dark nights. Otherwise you lose too much depth of field when driving and scanning. One is flood and one is spot. I’m hunting mostly wide open spaces, though.

    Would you get into 6.5 Grendel in 2024?

    I would absolutely use it as a pig round. Small sample size of two last weekend and out of a 6.5 Creedmoor, but very impressed with the bullet performance. About a 3in exit wound at 200m. Way more energy out of the 6.5G than the 77gr mk262 we typically use for pigs.

    Finally got the youngest son a pig at night. Actually had a big sounder come out during daylight the next day and killed a few more. Trying out the new Hornady 100gr ELD VT in 6.5 Creedmoor and some impressive performance so far.

    Quick follow up. The Steiner filter from B&H photo worked perfectly. Minimal bloom on the only pig encountered that night allowing for a much more precise aiming point. Best $10 I’ve spent in a long while. Wish I’d figured this out a decade ago!

    Have you tried heavier bullets? Barnes 70gr 5.56 has probably worked best for me over the years. Now running military mk262 but don’t think it’s done better than the Barnes. Love shooting bolt guns but way more effective using an AR for quick follow up shots.

    Rifle Scopes Magnifier with most forgiving eye box

    Have the vortex 3x and 6x. Both work well. 6x is pretty long and takes up quite a bit of real estate. Nice for getting a better image for zeroing, but otherwise 3x stays on the rifle.

    Ordered a neutral density filter from Steiner that will hopefully help the laser bloom. Just won’t use the illuminator unless really needed or they’ve already spooked. Hoping it gets here by next Thursday when I head out again. If doesn’t work I’ll go back to the drawing board.

    Tubes aren’t the issue, running high spec L3 tubed Katanas. Need the active IR for designating pigs when hunting with multiple people.
