I want to shoot rock chucks

For the “out west” stuff try some googling for ranches offering P dog hunting. Probably will be some camping involved, but modest prices compared to larger game. I shot the Nightforce ELR match in ‘19. Stormed pretty good the Sunday night after the match. We got the RV stuck in the gumbo...

    Sled for Squirrel Zero?

Squirrels will hear you coming from a mile away. The silent, snipery, tactical method of movement would be a tactical stroller. Put your rifle, ammo, sled, extra killin stuff in there and push with ease.

    What caliber is it???

If you didn’t want to do it yourself, pretty much any smith would do that for not a lot of money

who likes the 300 wsm ?

A buddy of mine built a WSM on a LA throated for the 245’s. His speeds aren’t all that fast but he’s done some impressive ELR stuff with it.

    Same with Tikka’s

who likes the 300 wsm ?

300 WSM rocks! I agree with it falls between the ‘06 and win mag. Personally I think it shines in the 180-200 gr weight class I have 2, one with a 24” and another with a 20”. Haven’t shot the 20” much, 50 rounds or so, but so far I’m getting 2775 out of a 200 eldx with h1000. Might get more...

Who had Alaska volcano in February???

Would Greta be an antacid or beer bonging a bottle of jager…?

RRS TFCT 14L w Anvil 30 too heavy for backpack backcountry hunting?

😂 Too bad all the smoke jumpers are dudes and not Amazonian ripped chicks. I’d set fires twice a week for that.

Who had Alaska volcano in February???

https://avo.alaska.edu/volcano/spurr @sirhrmechanic So, while I meant my comment to be more sarcastically humorous and a touch informational, this one might actually pop. It’s on schedule with previous recorded eruptions. It’s the closest volcano to Anchorage, about 80 miles west. I was in...

    Sounds like a cheap solution..

Hey man, leave us alone up here. Just cuz you live in a miniature state doesn’t give you the right to offer ours up. Besides, Polar bears would eat the mules, and people, anyways. We’d have to shoot the bears, we like the bears up here. They’re endangered or something.

RRS TFCT 14L w Anvil 30 too heavy for backpack backcountry hunting?

Agree 100%. After every hunt I do a pack dump, everything that doesn’t contribute to my survival or help make the kill or take care of the animal, gets omitted forever. I’m pretty streamlined now. First thing to go for me was extra clothes, except socks, carry 4 pairs of those. Deorderant-gone...

RRS TFCT 14L w Anvil 30 too heavy for backpack backcountry hunting?

Thats pretty good for overall pack weight, nice work. I’d pretty much decided on the 14L for my purposes, until i saw the tfcx13. That height works for me (only 5’8). Shave .5 lbs off, I’m sure if it’s on the soar side of the rrs site, it has a load limit capable of a sub 10 lb rifle. Though...

RRS TFCT 14L w Anvil 30 too heavy for backpack backcountry hunting?

Yeah, nothing beats RRS for quality and stability. I’m certainly no expert but have done a few backpack sheep/Sitka blacktail deer hunts. The extra 3.5# sucks to carry, I’ve compensated by going ultralight where I can and cutting comfort items out of the pack. Whoever I’m hunting with, we...

RRS TFCT 14L w Anvil 30 too heavy for backpack backcountry hunting?

Are you carrying a spotter too? If so, a tripod is a must and dual purpose at that point. Another option is the 2 vets Infil or Voyager with an anvil 30 on it, shaves some weight. You can get away with cheaper/flimsier legs but I don’t compromise on the head. Might limit your range with cheaper...

Who had Alaska volcano in February???

Slow news day for you? That thing has been rattling for years. Also, we have at least one volcano pop off every other year or so. Couple pics I took years ago down on the Alaska peninsula, 10,000 foot Mt Shishaldin with lava shooting out of the summit.

Would you get into 6.5 Grendel in 2024?

Specs on your build? The last parts are on the way for mine, 13.9” sbr build. Have been following all the Grendel threads closely.

    NX8 or Mk5? or?

100%. Remember when the majority of us shot non adjustable stocks? We’d mount the optic purposely canted for our different shoulder pockets. Now with the chassis systems we have these days, we can fit the rifle to us, mount optics with a wedge but verify with a plumb bob. I was in one of the...

choosing the right 7mm variant this time around

I don’t think you’re going to go wrong. The various 7’s get to be so similar in one way or more, you could throw a dart at a list of them and go with whatever you hit. My next barrel on my hunting rig will be a 7-300 WSM throated for 180’s. Why do that over a 7 saum, 7-6.5 prcw, or 7 SS...

    Vortex 2025?

Man, I thought they hit it out of the park with that one, specifically as a cross over optic. The few I saw were all solid, razor reliability, great form factor on rifles, under 30 oz, usable mag range for the average hunter/field shooter. I still look for them on the secondary market from time...
