    338 Lapua Magnum

I hear 'ya. But above the 49th parallel in Canada, the real life facts of having to wait for a barrel, makes changing them difficult. I just waited 11 months for the Hawk hill barrel I just got for my .338LM.

    338 Lapua Magnum

Well, I'm not looking for anywhere near 3100 with the 300gr. I would be very pleased to get around 2850 to 2875fps with this combo. That's the same area of performance I was getting with the old barrel. It was accurate out to 1900 metres, and that's all I'm looking for again.

    338 Lapua Magnum

Yeah, I know Dave. It is probably too fast burning for the 300gr bullet. And velocity will suffer, even with the longer barrel. At maximum charge weight, the 4831 will be hard pressed to reach 2800fps IMHO. So I managed to find some N570. I will have to wait a couple of months to get it (early...

    338 Lapua Magnum

Thanks! H1000 and Retumbo have not been available in Canada for almost two years. Thats why I chose IMR4831. Anyone else?

    338 Lapua Magnum

Ok, I have a new barrel on my .338LM. Since Retumbo is unobtainium these days, I’ve decided on using N570 powder. (Mostly because I found a nice supply of it.) The bullet is the 300gr SMK, brass is Lapua, and primers are Federal 215m magnum. The new barrel is finished at 31”, and is a 1:9”...

What did you do in the reloading room today?

Loaded some .357mag and .44mag bug-out rounds to go with some 00 buckshot rounds. Yeah….you know what bug-out rounds are.

    Precision Rifles.....show em!!

It sure will feel good to get the boomer out again. I haven’t shot it in over 11 months. (It took that long to get the barrel I wanted.) Come on spring! PGWdti C14 TimberWolf .338LM Hawk Hills barrel finished at 31”, 1:9” twist, 1.25” straight contour Insite 5 port Heathen brake NF NXS (sfp)...

Seems like us Canadians have one up over you guys south of the border... Got these a few weeks ago. (sorry)

What did you do in the reloading room today?

After de-capping, wet tumbling, F.L. sizing, neck flaring, and priming……..ready for powder. Whew! 200 cases of .44mag Processing… And, it’s always a good idea to inspect those cases every time you load. Below are three examples I found while loading today. The one on the right separated...

What did you do in the reloading room today?

Ranges can be gold mines. Here I am just finishing up some non-match rounds of 6.5CM. These cases are all range pick-ups (94 total). I strongly believe they are once fired. Tight primer pockets. And measuring the fire firmed cases indicate that they were not stout loads at all. They are various...

Heavy (long) bullets in 308 size cases - question

^this! I do this exactly. For the .308 with 185gr Juggernaughts, my chambering has an extra .170” of free bore. Seating them long does give more room in the case for powder. And thus increasing the velocity. My accuracy node is a .010” jump. Speeds are around 2750fps. The only downside, I need...

    Some pistol caliber loads today.

    School me on .223 Bullets

I use Berger 80gr VLD’s with a 26” 1:8” barrel. I use a .010” jump with 23.8gr of Varget. The speeds are just over 2915fps. And I’ve shot very well in 700m silhouette matches. In fact on calm days, I call this my 1km plinking rifle. And…it’s the rifle with no recoil. But, the 1:8” barrel works...

    140 Berger Hybrids jump...How far?

My CBTO with the 140’s, in 6.5CM, is 2.239” with that .010” jump. I really don’t measure COAL. All I know about COAL, is that it’s too long for mag feeding ;-)

    140 Berger Hybrids jump...How far?

I use .010" as my jump with the 140gr Hybrids. Works well for my big Kreiger. In my rifle, they won't mag feed. But I don't mind single feeding them.
