Beginner - need equipment recommendations and advice

Because of this ^^^ I'd recommend you not get into reloading. As others said. 9MM & 5.56 ammo is readily available and prices are coming down. I spent a lot of time getting a friend started in reloading for his 308 and 6.5 CM. Getting him all of the correct stuff. It's been a couple of years...

    69 gr TMK accuracy?

Sierra 69 TMK shoots really well with 24.5-25.0 gr. of Varget out of two of my rifles.

die depth for full length resizing.

I found this out too some time ago about freshly annealed brass. To help this out without having to re-adjust my F/L die, I bought a set of Redding Competition Shell Holders. I can now adjust the bump without moving the die.

New M1A scout. What should I know?

I've had a standard M1-A since the early 1970's, a 3 digit serial # Devine gun. Standard GI with a Fiberglass stock. Bought it for $225.00. I went through scoping it with an original Leatherwood scope. I ended up selling the Leatherwood and kept it with the Irons. With Winchester 168 Match ammo...

    Powder IN-STOCK thread

Looks like they have once fired Lapua 300 PRC brass @ $1.00 a pop. If I had a 300 PRC, I'd be on that.

    Who makes this 308 brass?

Actually, I believe it is Swedish (Norma) Brass. I collected some last month from a shooter at the range that doesn't reload. It is very uniform brass. Somewhere on the net, I found some info on it. Can't remember where now. I was also confused over the "22" head stamp, thinking it was some...

    '06 brass to 35 whelen

Some die manufacturers offer a tapered neck expander to neck up. I use one in the 338/06 to expand 30/06 cases to 338". I use another one in my 358 Winchester dies to go from 308 win. cases to 358 cases. They both work well, but you need to use a good lube inside of the case necks. Both of my...

Anyone use Win 760 powder before?

I've used a lot of 760 in the 30/06 and the 270 Win. It made very accurate hunting ammo. A very good powder that is over looked today. As others have said, H-414 is the exact same powder. Downside it is temperature sensitive as with most other ball powders, but it can be used as a replacement...

    7.62 brass with "1K" headstamp

Imgman has an "lK" head stamp.

    Neck only sizing Question

Just remember you will have to F/L resize those N/O cases at some point. I fucked around with N/O sizing for a while. I learned I could 3 or so firings before F/l sizing. During my testing, I had to beat open the bolt with a 2X4 a couple of times for cases that were fired over 3-4 times. I...

How much case web thinning is too much?

O/P, how are you measuring the shoulder bump on your fired cases? How much are you setting F/L sizing shoulder bump on your fired cases? I haven't had a case head separation since controlling my F/L sizing shoulder bump and properly measuring fired case datum length and using a minimal bump on...

    Sizing the web

Before going out and spending more money on a small base die, Try some more shoulder bump. Some Ar-10's are over gassed and you might be getting more shoulder stretching as the bolt is unlocking, giving you a longer shoulder than the chamber is. M-14's are more notorious for this. I have a...

308 load data for 16 inch bolt gun. (178 ELDX)

Alliant 2000MR will do the same thing as the CFE223. Gives much higher velocities in the 308. 46.5 grs. gives me 2750+FPS with a 175 Nosler CC in a 24" barrel.

    Restoration of Cartridge Brass

O/P started this same thread over on The High Road last Monday. https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/cartridge-case-ductility-verses-annealing.918429/ On a quest to get the truth out. I don't GAF one way or the other. So what's the term we all should be using for this cartridge case...

    30-06 Berger and Powder Preference

In a 30/06 bolt gun, I preferred 4350 for the 168+ bullets. You get a bit more velocity, but Varget will work, your preference. for Deer hunting, I don't see the fascination of using a thin jacket Match bullet on Game. I know a lot of guys use them, but for Game use, I like a bullet that will...

Yep another FNG trying to reload for the AR 15 questions.

O/P, your S&W Rifles are not match Rifles. Set you F/L die up to bump the fired case shoulders to about 1.455" (from you listed measurements). Make a couple of dummy rounds (no primer or powder) to be 100% sure they chamber easily in both Rifles. Bumping your cases to -.005" is not going to...

    Forster Ultra micrometer seater die

Here's another way to skin the Cat. I do this with my hunting Rifle loads for 30/06, 270, 300 Mag, 260 & 223. You can buy a Hornady seating die for $30.00 (unless you're using a Hornady die set) and then a Hornady Micrometer seating stem for $40.00. $70.00 total cost. The Hornady seating stem...

Replacing bullet and powder from good round to new grain

Plan A : M-25 & M-62 tracers are about 145 grains. You might get away with replacing them with a 150 gr. bullet, but NOT a 168 or 175 bullet. If you dissemble them, you're going to have to at least re- neck size the cases to properly seat a new bullet. Plan B: If you want to get rid of them...
