    The "New" Barrett MRAD Thread!!!!!!

Guess you aren't going to be clearing structures with it??? MRAD is for place shooting, not a lightweight mountain packing rifle. So get the longer barrel and take advantage of all the muzzle velocity available. SOCOM chose 27" for 338NM; 26" for 300NM; and, 20" for 308W, as a training...

    The "New" Barrett MRAD Thread!!!!!!

Kevin Owens on the USSOCOM MK22 MRAD selection team has stated that there is no accuracy difference between heavy and fluted....only a slight weight savings and possibly faster cooling from fluted.

The MK22 FixItStick kit including the 140in-lb limiter is available on Barrett site Store for "only"$299. :) :) Just received my MK22 Deployment Kit. Was glad to find the FixItStick kit included rather than the original click torque wrench. (I heard it was a Snap-On.) Very happy with MK22...

    The "New" Barrett MRAD Thread!!!!!!

USSOCOM Barrett MRAD MK22 comes with a "lowly" Harris S series bipod for use with 308W, 300/338NM. SOCOM could have selected any bipod they deemed best. I've used Harris and Atlas bipods and Accu-Shot rear monopod on every MRAD caliber available, except 260Rem...went with 6.5CM instead...

Rifle Scopes Are Tier 1 scopes even worth it ?

That silence at the end of life when one is dying alone is really deafening. The kid noise and destruction go away reasonably quickly. Kinda the entry cost to being a family. If you break those kids in right and set the right role model, you won't find a greater, more satisfying Return On...

Rifle Scopes Are Tier 1 scopes even worth it ?

The higher one climbs in any technology the small incremental steps of improvement come at an exponentially faster growing price leap......glass, horsepower, speed, cornering, women... Stretch your envelope on the scope performance you need. Don't nibble on the low dollar side and end up...

Gunsmithing Did my machinist wreck my barrel?

That's not a common precision crown. Typically precision crown is around 11 degrees. Reference Sieg's picture posts above. Doesn't look very uniform. ....buggers at 10 and 1 o'clock. Light reflections indicate roughness, lack of precision.

My bolt gun collection is now complete

Nice collection, but.....Tsk...Tsk...Tsk. Done?!?!? I hope not, cause then YOU are done. There's a whole big world out there. Go visit gun ranges, gun stores, read gun rags. Awareness is the initial step to a purchasing decision. Give me your credit card numbers, you aren't even out of...

    Less recoil

Application....hunting or paper punching/ringing steel? Factory or reloaded ammo? For rounds on target with zero recoil....without terminal performance requirements......224 Valkyrie if just dinging. The old .243Win/6mmRem can't be dismissed for target...... or hunting at shorter range...

    Top 5 Rounds

Hmmm......two related but very different requirements....PRS and hunting. The first is only about external ballistics. The second adds the requirement of terminal performance......a critical step up the performance mountain.

Hard Use Rifle Made in USA?

Ding....Ding.....Ding......We have the winner. Well done 264Win. SOCOM agrees with MRAD. They could have chosen any rifle from any country, and after extensive evaluation.....Ding...Ding....Ding,,,,they chose MRAD. If you have better resources to one up their selection process, let's hear...

    The "New" Barrett MRAD Thread!!!!!!

Regarding bolt head/barrel match marking, Barrett MRAD/Bolt Armor Course, Don Cook recommends engraving matching marks/numbers in non-bearing locations to prevent mixing bolt head and barrels. The four digit codes on the bolt head and barrels appear to be day/month codes of when manufactured...

    The "New" Barrett MRAD Thread!!!!!!

Regarding the barrel preload right or left. Might suggest preloading to the left only as the barrels are RH twist. The same concept as pushing scope mounts FORWARD into the picatinny rail....instead of rearward.

    The "New" Barrett MRAD Thread!!!!!!

M-Lok, bag rider, vertical adjustable butt pad are features only on the MRAD MK22 MOD 0 version as on 6/20. Appears they will be migrating to civy models at undefined time. Also, includes the "toggle lever" bolt disassembly, 10MIL vs 20MOA rail.

    The "New" Barrett MRAD Thread!!!!!!

Look at YouTube video by Darrik Bolduc, Barrett Engineer, demonstrating MRAD caliber swap technique. Note to preload barrel to left....it's a RH twist.....during bolt torquing....similar to pushing scope mount forward against pic rail during torquing. That preload increases zero repeatability.

Rustyinbend.....SHHHH....don't tell the whipper snappers what gettin' old is like. Let 'em find themselves....like we've had to. It's not the anticipated party, but it still beats the other alternative.......to date. :) :) :)

    The "New" Barrett MRAD Thread!!!!!!

Both GEN 1 and GEN2 both pinch the barrel. The roughly first 1100 MRADs were large breach with the barrel pinch bolts "nicking" the barrel extension.....bout 1/2 diameter bolt slots. Small breach bolts totally miss the smaller diameter barrel extensions.
