    Seems like I remember a lot of Chrysler starters were spur gear reduction starters. Spur gears are known for their whine as tooth load handoff to the next tooth is not a smooth process like with helical gears.

    This 30 minutes you speak of once a week could be better spent by a front line worker being productive for that 30 minutes. Proper supervision would already know what the workers have accomplished without taking them away from productive activities for 30 minutes.
