Recommend the most American made 30-06 for an elk hunt

I have a pre 64 in 300 H&H that I inherited from my grandfather ( where I also inherited the hunting/ shooting gene ). It was his go to rifle for decades. I am planning a very similar trip with that rifle, and hoping for a very similar experience. Hard work, spectacular scenery, good company and...

    Southern Defense ammo BEWARE!

I’ve no dog in this fight, but an FYI would be that many places have limits on how much ammo they can ship per package. In some cases splitting it up is required and not optional. That said, there are definitely some scum bag sellers out there.

    Need inputs: scope problem analysis

I appreciate the idea, and would love to see the data. Perhaps shooters in your area who could avoid the cost and risk of shipping x2 Would be more willing to participate?

    6mm Dasher vs 6creed

The only disadvantage to the br/ dasher based rounds I know of, is feeding issues in some mag systems.

    Beam scale for small charges

Just wanted to add a follow up for anyone else in the same boat. I ended up buying an older M5 and it is perfect for my needs. Definitely a step up in every way from my 505. Thanks for all the good advice 👍

What can cause accuracy to fall apart at 700 yards?

Bullets starting to de stabilize sounds like the culprit here. This can happen well before transonic as well.

    Accuracy International Picture Thread

Didn’t want to just gloss over the most AI thing in this whole thread. Filtering your rifles air 😁 Kidding aside, not a bad idea 👍

    Howa mini in 300 BO

Does anyone have any info on if these are actually coming back or not ? I know there has been chatter about this in past years but I haven’t seen much relevant info recently.

    Best eyebox

Have the ZEISS s3 4-25 and it’s a great scope, but not overly forgiving in the eye box. The 6-36 seems better in that area to me. For the OP, I would look for a used S&B 5-25. Often found here used for 2100-2200. Hensold and S&B 4-16x are also great and in your budget if you are ok with 16x

If only there was a clue as to why companies are reluctant to give out pre release info 🤣😂

Hunting Rifle: 7mm Rem Mag or 7mm SAUM?

I think the 7 saum is a great, and liked the one I had. But I would definitely go with the rem mag now. I don’t like dealing with the head aches associated with obsolete cartridges. Having a long action in a hunting rifle is fine, imo.

Factory “match” ammo that is consistent

I have tried quite a few lots of hornady match 308 and 6.5 recently that had an es of well over 100 fps And some Berger 6.5 that was almost 100 fps This may be ok for paper at 100yds but that’s about it. Of the stuff I have been able to get my hands on only FGMM has been consistent.

Factory “match” ammo that is consistent

Not sure if this is the right spot for this, feel free to move if needed. I have seen a serious drop in the consistency of some factory “match “ ammo the last few years. Wondering if there is any ammo manufacturers that have maintained pre C19 quality. My own use is 308, 6.5 and 6cm but have...

    Barrel Profile: Heavy for Hunters

On a sporter/hunting type rifle, going to heavy on the barrel can make the gun nose heavy and kind of a pita to carry and shoot. If the rifle had a good balance with the factory barrel I wouldn’t go much bigger. Same thought in the optic. A 2lb scope mounted 2”+ over the bore on a light rifle...

    Beam scale for small charges

Looking for recommendations on a non electric scale that is accurate on small weights ( 2 grains ). My 505 has been great for larger weights but seems to struggle with 1-2 g charges.
