Tips, tricks, cheats & hacks - Let's hear 'em

I lase every target. My LRF is connected to my Kestrel and pulls the real-time drop data and displays it in the LRF. I use dry-erase marker on the top page of my Sunrise Tactical arm board and include drop, avg and high wind values for every target.

Tips, tricks, cheats & hacks - Let's hear 'em

Valid point. Have done that myself. That kind of thing you can figure out at the house - what height do you need to set the tripod at so you can engage those targets that are below the horizontal or radically above the horizontal and have good fundamentals with the rifle. How much do you need to...

Tips, tricks, cheats & hacks - Let's hear 'em

The best thing I could suggest for shooting off of a tripod is to actually go to the range with your tripod and PRACTICE with it on a paper target at 100 yards. Practice at different heights - Standing, kneeling (one knee and two, because there is a difference, at least that's what I found)...

Welcome. Where in CA are you?

I used to be you. Then after talking to some highly successful shooters I'm acquainted with, I found that trying things that are "outside the box" are a fun way to test my creativity in solving the problem. Sometimes the ideas work, sometimes they don't. I used to see "gaming" as cheating and...

    Advanced Marksmanship Tripod set up

Thanks for clarifying. I understand now. Just a measurement of the play inherent in the system, not what you're actually experiencing when on the gun.

    Advanced Marksmanship Tripod set up

Are you talking about your actual reticle wobble before taking the shot, or reticle displacement on recoil?

Me over here, just being jealous. Nice ride.

    Advanced Marksmanship Tripod set up

In my experience yes. The reason is that it moves the system's center of gravity forward of the center point of the tripod, enabling the system to counter recoil a little better. I don't shorten the front leg much, maybe two inches. I'm sure there are others here who can explain it more in depth...

how many rounds do you reload?

As with everything around here, "it depends..." Usually I'll build 50 more than I need for whatever is coming up, and how much time I have available to invest in my reloading process between matches. For back-to-back shooting weekends I'll usually work an hour or so a few days in a row the week...

Bergara vs a Voodoo or Zermatt

Have you ever heard anyone say, "My Vudoo shoots just as good as a... (insert whatever you want here)" If the answer to that question is NO, buy the Vudoo.

What is your funniest trigger that gets someone butthurt on the Hide?

That was a cool video of the drop. Would make an interesting screensaver set to a loop.

    Stomped by wind

You already have a way to 'put a waterline on a target' - use your reticle. Just make sure there's the same amount of real estate above and below the centerline of your reticle on the target. Keep at it.

    Stomped by wind

Can you shoot prone? Prone you should be able to see your trace pretty well at 900 yards due to the TOF. Look for it above the horizontal on your reticle at about 1/2 your total dope dialed on the scope for the shot. If you've got 9.2 MILS of elevation dialed, look for trace at around 4.5-ish...

So, I went training instead of shooting.

Thanks for sharing this video, Sheldon N. I'm going to try this concept.
