    Cool that they are going to re-test with the different barrel condition. I wouldn't have expected better velocities from H4831 than N555 at similar pressures.

    For clarity for anyone reading this that doesn’t know, until just recently the 6.5 PRC were only offered in the roughtech/veil lines with the heavier d18 contour barrels. So 3# wasn’t the lite or fluted superlite contour.

    N555 is actually fairly cool burning and supposedly temp stable. Same ballpark as h4350 for heat of explosion IIRC. I have a large stash of h4350 and there are still 8#ers available for sub $400 locally but I’ve been loading n555 primarily in my 6 creedmoor. Might be a little slow in burn rate...

    Plenty of hunting bullets with a sleeker profile these days too. I’d be skeptical about having to jump 0.028” more in a saami chamber vs a 0.160” freebore amounting to any real measurable difference in precision.

    It’s the same area where the stock gets wider for more stability on a front support. Just a bad design that it also has that bump from a vertical standpoint.

    excuse my ignorance, how does one extrapolate velocities from a 32" barrel to lengths someone would more commonly have in a field rifle? 26-18" using 25 FPS per inch is close enough to ballpark usually - how does that work from 26" to 32"? A little less gain per inch? 120 fps'ish difference...

    They have been getting some karma for hubris and criticism of others lately. I really like a lot S2H and UM is doing with products and podcasts but their hubris with ACE and the rokstoks has kind of proven they aren’t remotely above having the same issues.

    Carbon barrels have one benefit - larger muzzle diameter for larger muzzle threads at a given barrel weight. Carbon fiber is generally stiffer than steel for a given weight so the idea is a carbon barrel is stiffer than a steel barrel of the same weight. The only person I know of that tested...
