    Finest Sniper Rifle of WWII?

Here is the simple to understand explanation of "compensation" as it occurs in the rear locking SMLE action. For you guys brought up only knowing front locking Mauser type actions, you will not have come across some of this stuff. As flagged previously, the Commonwealth Rifle Clubs did a lot...

    Finest Sniper Rifle of WWII?

As I said it is complicated and relates to barrel harmonics and rear locking actions not to mention cordite rounds - the research is from 1929. Suggest some research required on your part - a lot of this is Target Rifle knowledge. But this is off topic to the question of WWII and the sniper...

    Finest Sniper Rifle of WWII?

Accuracy does not degrade to the same degree at long range. This is replicated in both .303 and in .308 but is more evident in the .303. During the late 1920, the British Army reviewed this at Bisley and apparently determined that .303 ammunition shot tighter, less vertical, groups at longer...

    Finest Sniper Rifle of WWII?

There is black magic involved with the rear locking action. In recent history the No4 action has been preferred for the "longs" on Full Bore ranges in some Commonwealth countries due to this attribute. The SMLE is faster on the rapids but the No4 brings it together as a single shot. But there...

    Help with my Enfield

First group at 50 yards using the long range (small) aperture then move back to 100. This distance change will also show up any eyesight problems you might not be aware of. And grip it hard, hand on top of the bag to move any bounce.

    Help with my Enfield

Honestly, if you do not load up 20 rounds with 174 SMKs or Hornadys and 44 grains of H4350, then you will continue to get these results. This is a benchmark accuracy load. Also, what shooting position did you use and how tight did you hold the rifle? The rifle works best in prone off a...

    Help with my Enfield

Sad news indeed. Were the projectiles 311 or 312 diameter or did you persevere with the 308s? Start looking for a new No4 barrel. Easy enough to change.

    Remington 1903's

I was using a K98 sniper on the weekend and it was fine from the sitting position but "impossible" from prone. Then I tried a 1903 (cannot remember which stock) with iron sights and saw the same issue if it was mounted. No4 (T) seems to be the only one from that time with a low scope over bore...

Is there any difference in cheek weld between the two stock styles?

    Help with my Enfield

Generally these Irish contract No4 MkIIs have seen little work. Can I ask, how do you know the throat is eroded? The British experience is to swage bullets down during the barrel phase, so 311 or 312 bullets would be the go to option. I am not that fussed by the metal rub at this stage...

    Help with my Enfield

The first, and insanely biggest, problem is not using 311 projectiles. A No4 will hold a nice 4 inch group from prone sling at 100m using Sierra 174 grain SMK or Hornady (FB). ADI's 2209 with 44 grains gives a good load, although 2208 (Varget) is often preferred). Using Sweets will cause...

    Make your case...

A Ross is a great suggestion. I have been playing with one that has been rebuilt - and ended up muttering quotes from McBride's work as the magazine clagged during a rapid. That being said it is a magic range rifle and we are working on improving and learning how to use it in anger.

Rifle Scopes March Genesis vs SB 5-45

If you say a March has a "fussy eye box" you've never used one properly. The GENESIS is not like "normal" scopes and is built for long range accuracy - 2 miles plus for centerfires and 500m to 1000 yards for rimfire. Because of that, it is not for everyone. But if you want to do the long range...

Guys - you are putting two and two together and building an Internet story. I am just waiting on official word back from a March distributor regarding where the PRS is at.
