I will say even if you decide you don't want to mandrel every time it's a great tool to have for new brass which is often dented and undersized or if you drop a piece of brass at some point in the loading process and don't want to run it through the full length die again.

I use a redding type s set. If I had to do it again I'd consider a wilson bushing die and a forster micrometer seater. I use a bushing to size about .002 under desired neck tension then use a .222 mandrel. I'd also recommend starline brass.

    30-06 Rem 721

Yeah, that'll do it. Maybe just a new 30-06 barrel in a remington varmint profile? Id just sand out the barrel channel re bed if necessary and be done. I'm not sure if the action needs to be modified for a 700 trigger. Could always have the original walker trigger tuned.

    Classic long action hunting cartridges?

Agreed. I'd argue pretty much any wildcat at this point isn't special. Choose a bullet and how fast you want it to go and there's multiple different cases to get you there. I'd like to see his reamer spec to see what's different about it versus a regular 25-06 ai. It's funny seeing 25 cal be the...

    Classic long action hunting cartridges?

I need to get into a 7mm one day. Lots of good bullets now and tons of cartridges to choose from.

    Classic long action hunting cartridges?

Being you can get already formed 280ai brass makes it very attractive.

By the time I got to that box I was just shooting at steel. An moa plate at 500 yards wasn't a problem. Seemed to shoot a good group on steel at 600. Next time I go out I'll try them on paper at 100 and compare to the other loads.

    .223 Twist Rate

Thanks Frank. Great information as always. It seems like the F class and benchrest guys lean towards the least amount of twist needed to stabilize a particular bullet. A little extra twist doesnt seem to hurt in most cases but im no br shooter. Let me ask you a question on the opposite end of...

    .223 Twist Rate

I remember reading that as well. My barrel is also 5r and it shoots extremely well. I'd venture to say the jackets on these heavier match bullets is tougher as well compared to the lighter varmint bullets.

    .223 Twist Rate

I am running a 7 twist and shoot 77 smk and 80 smk. The 80 smk are running at 2810 fps which is right about 289k rpm. My barrel is a 24" Bartlein. @Frank Green id love to get your take on this. I believe I've heard you say in the past you want to stay under 300k rpm. If I had something like a...

    .223 - 5.56

New lot of varget gave me a 40-50 fps bump at the same charge weight. 24.5g varget with an 80g smk in a 24" barrel.

    Hunting Season is Coming

After going to the range yesterday and seeing many hunters try to sight in their rifles, they could really use this.

280ai looks promising if you want something a little more unique.
