Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I think they're some stupid metric thread. 4mm X .7 or 5mm X1 or something. For some reason they decided to go metric on a lot of the hardware. Frank

    STGW 57 update.

Good guy. He's done a lot of work and research to make them right. Get out and shoot it. They're a bit odd and ugly looking but they shoot very well and are quite pleasant. Being heavy they have little recoil and the butt is made to absorb what little is left. Sights are great too. Keep us...

    STGW 57 update.

Who built the rifle? I've been shooting a PE57 for some years and loading for it as well. They can be pretty accurate and a good scope is worth having. 175gr tipped Sierra Matchkings work very well in these rifles. Frank

The new 33XC & 37XC cartridges designed by David Tubb

If you're running a suppressor, which I think everyone should.....stainless is a better choice. The suppressor traps a lot of the water vapor in the powder gas and if you don't pull the can every time you shoot and oil the bore you can get corrosion and pitting. Stainless will be more...

The new 33XC & 37XC cartridges designed by David Tubb

I got a Schneider for my 33XC and it took about 4 weeks. Much faster than most I normally deal with and its a nice piece. I'd buy more blanks from them now that I know they exist. Very helpful folks. Frank

    Desert Tech MDR Opinions?

At least with the price dropped closer to where comparable bullpup rifles are selling its not such a bad deal. If you pay high end you expect high end which the rifle wasn't when it came out. In my opinion that was the biggest complaint. We waited a long time for a rifle that was promised to be...

    Load Variation in a Dillon

When you get done with all this testing you might try testing the variation in the powder drop from a full powder measure to the baffle as you empty it out. I see a lot of change as the powder level drops and find that I'm still weighing about every other charge in stuff I care about just to...

    Gunsmithing Muzzle Break Threads?

I had a customer who ended up with a muzzle break due to the threading on his tiny barrel. We took his .595" diameter muzzle and did a 1/2-28 thread with me warning that it might not hold up. He accepted the risk and had no issues for a bit. On a hunting trip he dropped the rifle and the brake...

Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Wow, 36" is pretty good. Nice to see you're still kicking too. Haven't seen any posts for a while. I'm running a heavy 32" barrel for my 33XC in a covert gen 1, or at least I was til I ended up with a gen 2 A1 chassis. With the bipod mounted at the rear end of the rail the rifle still tips...

I did some 12.7X48 mags too. What a pain. I used the 308 mags and had to remove the spacer in the back then swap out the follower and spring to make it work. Not so much tweaking on the body is needed since the shoulder is further forward than on the 338 Lapua size mags. Frank

How much accuracy am I losing by not annealing?

We have seen some differences based on what you're shooting. My 338 LM doesn't seem to care if I anneal. 8 shots with lapua brass and I can't see a difference in groups. On the other hand the 6.5X47 starts dropping off pretty consistently after about 3 firings. Its not just me either. There are...

    Gunsmithing Barrel drilling

I don't have an answer for you. Tech details are my gig, money stuff is the big guy. I'm sure the 500 piece quantity we bought got the price down a bit so depending on how many you want the cost will vary. It was also 5 years ago and prices have likely changed. Best bet is to contact them. I...

    Fieldcraft Open tube Boiler done.

I built a model twin cylinder uniflow engine many years back that used poppet valves operated by an eccentric like other valve types. It had rocking arms with adjustable tappets to push the valves open. The connecting rod between the front and rear valves was adjustable to for changing lead. I...

    Fieldcraft Open tube Boiler done.

Look at solenoid operated poppet valves. Easy to make and with todays electronics it should be easy to set up a plc with a program that would optimize inlet and outlet opening for rpm and load. No need for mechancally connected valve gear anymore. . . Frank

    37XC build

I haven't really had any problems with tubb other than he's not the friendliest guy to deal with. Some of my customers have had some pretty unpleasant experiences though and won't buy from him. The brass is great whether he is or not so that doesn't matter to me. I've bought brass and dies from...

    37XC build

Grafs is now selling the Peterson 33XC brass so you don't have to deal with tubb anymore....if that helps. I just picked up 350 pcs for my self and customers. Frank

    Suppressors Suppressor blew up

Silicone is about as good as butter for preventing galling. Your can and barrel are probably sufficiently different materials so that galling isn't a problem. The use of silicone has nothing to do with your success in non-galling cans. It does make a very good anti-stick surface coating though...

    Suppressors Suppressor blew up

We did a bunch of testing with a variety of anti-seize compounds many years back. The idea at the time was to see if we could come up with something to prevent crap from sticking to the baffles. So for some of these tests we coated the inside of the blast chamber and the rear faces of all the...

She must have failed American History........

Were there no non-evil non-white people at the rally? We all know that to be white is to be racist so obviously she is correct but there should have been some who weren't white if for no other reason than to be slaves or servants to the evil white folks protesting. Not so? Frank
