New McMillan HTG M40A1 smear stocks!!!
I don’t think McMillan ever claimed these “new smears” are made using the original mold from the 1970s/1980s. The original HTG mold from that timeframe is most likely long gone. Aside from any blemishes in the current mold(s), the original HTG(/P since there’s the separate mold with stippling...- kft101

New McMillan HTG M40A1 smear stocks!!!
Nice comparison! The unpainted stock looks to be using a pre-64 floor plate, based on the “flattened” hinge area. I believe the pre-64 floor plates are thinner than the post-64 floor plates, as in your painted stock. Could this also explain the gap and “looseness” in the fit of the floor plate...- kft101
