    22 creedmoor

I think that 41 grains of H4350 is a little high for a start point... While everyone's rifle is different, that exceeds Hornady and Peterson's max loads by 3-4 grains FYI.

    Struggling with 5.56

N135 is a better burn rate than N140 for your application. Vihta has improved the temperature stability of their 100 series powders compared to prior, although they aren't as temperature insensitive as the Hodgdon Extreme line. But they are forgiving to load, accurate, available, and not too...

    6.5 Creedmoor 100gr ELD-VT + Varget Load Development

I don't know if you can exclusively blame the powder, yours loads are way, way, way too hot. I have never seen good accuracy or ES/SD from primer blowing hot loads. I mean it literally broke your rifle. I do agree on the results being odd, Staball 6.5 isn't that fast burning of a powder, and...

Quick review of 16" Criterion Hybrid 416R Nitrided barrel, 1:8" twist, .223 Wylde, midlength

Really appreciate the review. I also recently picked up a 12.5" Criterion Hybrid and am hoping it is a shooter too.

About to purchase weapon mounted NV. Opinions please

If you realistically want to shoot critters at 600+ yards and actually know what they are, you will need a REALLY good thermal. ClipIR XELR and Voodoo M come to mind. They are big bucks.

About to purchase weapon mounted NV. Opinions please

There is alot to making this decision. If you have access to a powerful IR illuminator, NV works well for static (IE steel plate) target shooting to long distances. The ClipNV units are good quality and I think they have Elbit tubes of reasonably high spec. That being said you can get retubed...

Rifle Scopes S&B PMII vs. ZCO 527 vs. Kahles 540i

If you are specifically looking for reliability data, that will be hard to get in a statistically significant fashion. Single user data ends up being more anecdotal. I personally prefer Schmidt, a friend of mine is in love with ZCO, etc... truth be told neither of us have had issues with either...

Night Vision Newb looking for clip-on advice and info

It isn't gatekeeping or whatever Gen Z word you would like to assign to this perceived slight. You just didn't bother to do ANY research on your own and expect to be spoon fed. If you will just trust whatever someone tells you WITHOUT doing your research then you are the dumb one for not...

    22 creedmoor

Finally getting settled. 24" Shilen Ratchet 1/7.5 twist Rem 700/chassis 80 ELDX 44 gr N560 2.610 OAL 3250 fps, SD 6 Alpha LRP brass Consistently in the 0.4-0.6 MOA group range for 5 shot groups. Moderate load with no pressure signs. Hopefully stays that way with hotter weather.

    H4895!?

Even more useful than bickering or calling BS on a niche use case for an alternative powder (H4895 reduced loads)... You could actually experiment yourself and provide some useful data to other shooters here at SH. I lead by example in the case of IMR 4895 and would be happy to share if others...

    H4895!?

FWIW I am trialing some reduced loads with N-135 in 308 using the 125 SST. I will report back if there are any ignition issues in cold weather. I have used IMR 4895 for reduced 308 loads with identical results to H4895, again using the 125 SST. No ignition issues even with charges in the 60% of...

    308 win Winchester Brass

Another thought if you want to continue to use some cases with looser primer pockets that aren't otherwise completely trashed - some primers fit tighter than others. For example Ginex LRM primers are VERY tight in new brass, and a touch larger in diameter than the standard primer brands (CCI...

Why are basic bolt guns so hard to find?

The market has spoken and hardly anyone is buying them... So why would someone manufacture them if the demand is so low? Either find a vintage BDL varmint, build one off a 700 action (a SPS Varmint would be a good action/barrel donor with a replacement wood stock), or get a Sako/Tikka. I...

Converting a mid length 16" to rifle length 18"

That is a problem with the barrel, not necessarily an intrinsic problem with the 18" rifle gas setup

Fast burning, large grain powder like Trail Boss

Great find, looks like a 5744 clone...

Fast burning, large grain powder like Trail Boss

Actually most of these suggestions are not very good. A powder like IMR 4227, AA 1680, etc is completely wrong for a low case fill application IE subsonic in 308 Win. AA5744 is pretty much unobtainable. There are several other threads about this, as well as data in "subsonic loads" sticky. A...

Converting a mid length 16" to rifle length 18"

Maybe, maybe not. Shoot it and see. Too many variables to assess. I have one large frame AR that ran like crap without being tamed with an AGB. Another one was a Criterion 16" rifle gas. That ran like a sewing machine right out of the box with no issues. Didn't even use a fancy heavy buffer.

Converting a mid length 16" to rifle length 18"

You don't necessarily need an adjustable gas block with a suppressor. A pleasant side effect of your switch to an 18" rifle gas is they tend to run smoother and be much less prone to overgassing than shorter barrels/gas systems. I shot out an 18" rifle gas barrel (over 9.5k rounds) with almost...

AR10 6.5 Creedmoor problems.... Need Help Bad

It may or may not be possible to salvage a functional rifle from your collection of parts, even if you try the gas block, buffer, etc tricks to try and get it to run. Sometimes there can be tolerance stacking (this means still in-spec!) and function issues even with high quality parts (JP...

Night Vision Basic Thermal Clip ON Q's.

The FOV and menu locations are different for every clipon. I have experience with the SNIPE-IR, Clip XELR, and PoT products. All would be "optimized" in terms of resolution, ideal base scope mag, and maximal minimum usable mag with different optics. The ideal optic for the vast majority of...
