    Interesting. I have heard Numerous accounts of how critical the crown is. In fact so critical that how your cleaning rod/brush leaves the barrel and engages the crown can degrade accuracy.

    Too bad, a Noveske 8.2" barrel was in stock a few days ago at rainier but I missed it. Been waiting a few months for that email.. I will keep tuned on this thread since I also will be building one soon.

    Great find. Looks like the SMK is a little shorter than the Amax and possibly a little longer on the bearing surface. I already have 500 so I might as well load some up and see what I find.

    I find it interesting that after your first cut to 23" you accuracy improved. I understand the barrel harmonics at play but one would not expect removing the target crown via a hacksaw would not degrade accuracy more than barrel length can improve it.

    To do this test they took snipers and put them in a competition shooter's environment and shot against competition shooters. But they could never flip it around and make a test that goes the other way. Enough said.

Why not get the barrel nut torqued to say.. 35 lbs to account for your choise of thread compound and then mill out a spot for the gas tube if need be. I also...
