    300 Norma Mag

JP, my subsequent post (quoted below) sheds a bit more light on the issue. It seems my SAC chamber was about perfect for the shoulder length of the Norma brand brass. The Peterson brass is unfortunately a bit short but it was the first production run. @Supersubes said that Peterson is fixing...

    Labradar or Magneto Speed

I have had a MS V2 for a couple years. It is "simple" to use but some people have apparently managed to shoot theirs. I understand how as I had the strap loosen up while firing a ladder test and it was loose enough to be struck by a bullet at that point. It did skew the results of that ladder...

No, I haven't seen any of the Lapua brass yet. I think I saw something about it is only going to be available in loaded ammo initially and that hasn't hit the market yet.

I started a thread in the reloading section called "How Much Headspace Is Too Much?". I started it because I couldn't find any good answers to the question and my unfired brass was up to 20 thousandths short in my chamber. I wasn't sure if it was a chamber (SAC) or a brass (Peterson) issue...

How much headspace is too much?

As an added data point, I just measured 10 of my virgin Norma brand .300 Norma Magnum brass. They all measured 2.040 at the shoulder +/- .001 which would made them about perfect in my SAC chamber which is producing 2.042 fired brass. It definitely looks like Peterson needs to refine the...

Indeed I am. JTAC has taken a lot longer to get started than anyone thought it would. This may have worked in JTAC's favor though as the decline of Manatee has LR shooters looking for alternatives.

Welcome. I'm up near Tampa and dealing with Manatee while crossing my fingers for JTAC Ranch to come to fruition.

Hiking with chamber flag in dusty environments? Ideas - here is one but looking for better ideas too

You also need to worry about the fine dirt getting in from the muzzle end. In the desert, I used to put a foam earplug in the muzzle as it would eject itself if I ever forgot about it instead of being a barrel obstruction. As much as the precision community dislikes BoreSnakes, this may be a...

How much headspace is too much?

Yes, I'm sure I have been measuring them correctly. I had about 20 pieces of fired brass and 30 pieces of unfired on my reloading bench. I measured all of them at the same time at least once and the measurements were consistent. I have 50 pieces of the Peterson brass and at this point they...

Night Vision New to nv looking for hide advice

Do not do a skull crusher. It is not a term of endearment. It is a fitting name to a painful device that probably is still used as a form of torture in unscrupulous countries.

How much headspace is too much?

I'm having a heck of a time getting a quantifiable answer on this so any help would be appreciated. Most people recommend bumping the shoulder back about .002" or .003" after firing in order to prolong the life of the brass and prevent casehead separation. That is fine and not what my question...

Scar 17s eat optics and accessories

Sounds a lot like FN trying to point the finger at everyone else but themselves. This claim does nothing to explain the higher g-forces encountered during the firing of the weapon as mentioned in the study I spoke of earlier. Also, the SCARs I have messed with were for military use and we...

How much case lengthening do you guys consider acceptable after firing virgin brass? My unfired Peterson brass was measuring mostly 2.022 to 2.032 with most in the middle using my shoulder measuring tool. My fired brass is all 2.042 or 2.041. 20 thousandths seems like a lot of stretch to me...

Night Vision Black spots in new PVS-14 tube

I can understand the vendor being insulted that someone isn't satisfied with his "best" product attempt. That doesn't change the fact that their best attempt with their best tubes has a significant amount of flaws in it. If it were my money, I would return the NVG to them for a refund and go...
