    Acceptable scopes for 1k+

The xtr3 is superior to the BTR but the Ares gen 2 can be had for a little over 500$ (mil version) on Amazon, so it’s a smokin deal for that price.

It's now official. JTAC Ranch closing

That bottom video inspired my 308 gasssr build a few years ago when you posted it on Facebook. Lol Been following hat creek ever since.

    Stuck bolt

It’s probably a stuck case like TheGerman stated. Rubber mallet or a good smack with your palm. You can have someone tap a cleaning rod while you smack the bolt handle if needed.

    atholon vs vortex

Athlon kills it in the sub 1k$ optics. The helos gen2 6-24 has better turrets, eye box, and IQ (although close but slightly better) than the strike eagle 5-25. The Midas tac and ares btr gen 2 looked better than the pst gen 2, i really didn’t get a lot of time behind the pst gen 2 to really...

    Arken 5-25x56 thoughts!

I was able to get some budget scopes side by side last month and really compare them at 650 yards facing directly west at 7 pm. I purposely did this so the sun would be at the worst possible angle for cheap glass. I was reading license plates, writing on trash cans, an American flag and...

    Scratched chamber

Just hit the chamber with 2500 grit and a dowel for about 15 seconds. I’ve done this with two chambers with no issues. Fixed the sticky brass problem both times.

    Accuracy using MagnetoSpeed Sporter Chronograph

Here’s a small sample experiment with my 20” AR 15 and 75 grain bthp at 200 yards. Left is no magnetto attached, right is magnetto attached. Not much difference, not enough that I’d probably go ahead and leave the magnetto on if I was to work up a load on that particular rifle.

Why is the XTRIII so popular?

Once you get past how turrets feel vs. how they preform you’ll open up yourself to some great scopes. The only scopes in my lineup right now is Burris, Athlon and a bushy match pro. And they are in that particular order of preference. I don’t have a Cronus but I wouldn’t hesitate to use one. I...

    Rifle Scopes I've been Vortex'd

I’m not the one being hypocritical. I sold all my arkens but still own several Chinese scopes. I would almost bet 100$ they’re made in the same factory, along with the old Nikon x and fxs. I have my suspicions on which company is oem-ing them, and believe it might have originated in Japan making...

    Rifle Scopes I've been Vortex'd

Wait a minute!! Aren’t you pushing the Burris xtr2 right now? You realize it’s very possible the xtr2 is probably oem’d in the same factory as the vortex in the Philippines? One can look at the turret knurling and finish and come to the conclusion without really digging too deep into it. What...

    Rifle Scopes I've been Vortex'd

I had a weaver tactical that fell over with the rifle onto concrete. It shifted zero and the clicks ended up between the hashmarks. It stayed like that for about a year, then it was knocked off my cleaning bench by my cat, it shifted the clicks back to the hash marks and I had to re-zero. If it...

    6-24 vs 5-25

What I’ve noticed is there’s usually a better eye box with the 4x ratio scopes. It also seems like scope companies can put together a 4x erector better for all around use. 5x erectors seem to have a flaw or discrepancy somewhere in the mag range more so than 4x. It could be different in the...

    Current selling trend

To help keep the thread “relevant”😂 I just got a email asking if I was a demon. How does one know if they are or not? Do you get an alert from satan? Membership packet maybe? Or do you just know it from the start?

Rifle Scopes Mounting Help: Scope Rotates w/ XTR Signature Rings

Sometimes you have to anticipate the movement and put the scope slightly off level the opposite direction and keep trying until it hits. I’ve never seen one rotate with the Ariska kits though.

    .224 Valkyrie kickin my A$$

Monos can be barrel sensitive. They don’t slug up in the bore when fired like cup and core bullets. If your barrel is on the loose side of spec, gases can escape around a mono severely affecting accuracy. Custom tight bore barrels always shoot monos best.

    Powder speed question

I suppose it could work. Be nice if you had quick load to give you some data numbers to start. Did you try varget?

Rifle Scopes Utg pro 34mm rings

The UTG Pro USA made rings are leaps and bounds better than the arkens. They are 50 cal rated and I believe they’d be just fine on a 50. Very heavy built. The UTG pro rings and XLR rings are identical and probably made in the same factory.

    Arken Optics epl4 vs ep5

I think the Arkens are great entry level options for guys getting started in long range. Grab a savage and throw a Arken on it and go out and connect steel at 1000 yards no problem. But once you start really getting down to the nooks and crannies and compare them with some other sub 1k$...
