    Vortex vs Athlon

My ares is a g2, the HG2 was purchased late 2022. I’m sure if I really got down to picking them apart I’d find some differences but man they are close. Like very close! I’m glad to hear about some Gen 3s coming, definitely looking forward to that.

    Vortex vs Athlon

I have looked thru the Ares btr, Midas tac 6-24 and the HG2 at 650 yards in direct sunlight and I honestly can discern any difference in the glass when looking at license plates, American flag, and texture on a shingle roof, they all look the same, so I think the HG2 is coming out as the better...

    Worst Value Optic?

I agree on both of those. I have both lol.

    Vortex vs Athlon

I agree, I’ve had several dmr2s and there’s nothing they offer that even the helos gen2 didn’t do as good or better, like tunneling under 6 power, glass in the bushy was actually blown away in terms of clarity and brightness. Eye box about the same, both track spot on. My Dmr2s were not...

    Worst Value Optic?

A good question to ask now would be, how many sub 1000$ optics have all the features, track reliably and have good enough glass for most weekenders to connect at 1000 yards, how many are good enough for a mile? Competitors probably want the best they can afford, but weekenders want something to...

    Vortex vs Athlon

The Helos g2 is turning out to be an exceptional optic for the price. It beat out the ep5 in eye box and glass and wasn’t far behind my xtr3 5.5-30. If Athlon put it out to compete with the Arken, they knocked it out of the park.

    Worst Value Optic?

Those minorities are quick to respond because they want everyone to know they bought xyz scope and have to scream it from the rooftops. They don’t seem like a minority because they post about it every chance they get so it seems like a popular opinion, but in reality it one or two people posting...

    Worst Value Optic?

Some people on here have the social skills of a feral cat. Coupled with the egotistical behavior thinking of not ever being wrong doesn’t help at all.

    Worst Value Optic?

I remember a time I asked if nightforce rings should fit in the pic rail a little tighter. It turned into a several page attack. Lol. People are passionate about their brands, wether it’s from justification on money spent or years of being a loyal fan. One thing is sure, people getting...

    Worst Value Optic?

I agree they may need updated, but man they’re a solid budget choice. You can bet on them just plain working reliably.

    Worst Value Optic?

A lot of guys that get into these scope opinion threads, don’t really want your opinion, they want you to have their same opinion. I don’t like your favorite scope! Well fuck you! You don’t know how to use it! Lmao.

    Worst Value Optic?

Yeah, my meopta 5-30 out glassed every scope I’ve ever owned in its price range and slightly above. same with my 4.5-27x50 meopta. Great glass, just wish they would refine it some by putting rotation indicator on the turrets and switch to locking windage.

    Worst Value Optic?

Every Leupold made. 30 to 50% overpriced depending on the model.

    Acceptable scopes for 1k+

If I allocated 1500$ for an optic, I’d try to find a Cronus and a xtr3 to look thru and see which my eyes liked better, probably throw the XRS3 in there as well.

    Acceptable scopes for 1k+

Xtr3 seems to be the hot chick right now. Athlon ares btr and etr are good scopes in their respective price ranges. Cronus is in your upper price range but a good choice.

Rifle Scopes Burris XTRiii 5.5-30 elevation knob hard to turn?

My non illuminated is stiff, my xtr2 was stiff too. Both feel about the same, I figured it’s just the nature of the mechanism. Stiff and muffled, I’m sure it’s on purpose. I see the benefits of it.

    Effectiveness with ar10 and 15

A buddy and I built a couple decently accurate 20” ARs, I’ve found with a good optic with a 3 power low end up to 15-18 power high end they are extremely capable for fast paced shooting. More effective than a bolt gun for sure, where my bolt gun shines is we can’t seem to get a single digit SD...

    Monstrum

The monstrum pro series rings and the vortex pro series rings look remarkably similar even the rail lug is the same. I’d say they’re made in the same factory.
