There is definitely a difference between the lower end stuff and RRS/Fatboy/2 Vets. For what it's worth, myself and a couple buddies have gone to the latter 2 for increased stability/rigidity. I've tried a few different stand alone knee pads and wasn't much of a fan. They did fantastic protecting my knees, but they just never felt as stable vs without.
