Hunting & Fishing Cold weather gloves

Mittens; I used the Army Trigger finger Glove (mittens) and the Army Arctic Mittens in my 22 years tramping through the Alaskan Arctic and living with the Alaskan Natives on the Bering Sea of Western Alaska thinking I had the cats meow. And did as long as I was X-Country Skiing or on snow shoes...

Opinions, Please, on Turning a Very Nice 1903A3 into a 1903A1

Keep the A3 as an A3, and start collecting the parts you need to make a A1. You wont find an A1 that shoots like a A3 (mainly because of the sights) sniper versions not withstanding. At best you're gonna have a buggered up action where the A3 sights go.

Post-M21 sniper rifle development history - Army, Navy, and USMC sniper & DMR rifles

In the 80s I was running sniper schools for the Alaska NG and RA from the 172nd inf Bdg out of Ft Richardson. The Guard was using M1c/d and the Army were using the M21s. They seemed to work as well as the M21s I used in Sniper School in '78. We, the NG, started getting the M21s in the late...

    1903 NRA Sporter

I've seen some dern nice '03 sporters that I would pay that much or more for, but that isnt one of them. Not impress, looks like someone just cut down the stock and added sights. If one has interest in sporters, they should check Cpt. Edward Crossman's "Book of the Springfield" to get an ideal...

Winchester Model 70 International Army Match

Beautiful rifle, but I'll admit I'm partial to Model 70s. Model 70 Target rifles pop up on the CMP Auction site every now and then. I picked this one up for $501 because it was missing parts. Turned out it was only missing the action screws. It's an AMU across the course gun in 308. Came...

Hunting & Fishing First buck using the ELD-X’s

I used hornady bullets last year with good luck. This year I tried the 143 ELD-X, Went 4 for 4, ( 4 antelope and one mulie) ranged form about 330 to 650. All one shot kills, this was with a RAP using 41.5 gr of Win 760. Nothing special about the muley, but the 143s were spectacular. I...

    prone for fat guys?

Try using the Cocked Knew method like used in HIgh Power. You lay more on your side witch takes the weight off your diafram.

    Talladega CMP Vintage Sniper Match

I havent shot the Talladega Vintage Sniper match, but I've shot several other CMP travel games including the OK City Games. Over all from what I've seen the Springfields win most of the matches. I did shoot The games at Cody,WY when the M1Ds won but that was the exception. The K31s seem to do...

    Fieldcraft Fieldcraft resources

Take up turkey hunting. You dont have shoot them, just hunt them so you dont have to worry about seasons and tags. But build a blind and call them in. Turkeys unlike most critters can distinguish colors. They have excellent eye sight. You fool turkeys you can fool people. As to night land...

    Viet Nam Model 70's

If you do get it, and switch stocks, and decide to sell the Marksmans stock, Let me know, I'm looking for one. Just for info, when I was still in Alaska I bought 6 Model 70 Actions for $250 from a guy who went around the Native Villages buying old guns. I build a 243 for my wife out of my...

    Viet Nam Model 70's

In the AK ARNG we did our ATs in the winter, Use to be called Jack Frost, later Brim Frost. In '74 I was with the 38th SF Company ARNG, we jumped into Galena when it was 68 below. Adrenalin causes you not to notice the cold. When you hit the DZ which was the Yukon river, you ditched your...

Finally got an AR TEL scope to complete an early M21 replica rifle

It got a good home too. Works perfect for my Model 70 257 Roberts, my primary deer/antelope rifle. As we know the average deer is about 18 inches from its back to belly. That scope works perfect after I finely got it dialed in for my loads. Thanks again.

Finally got an AR TEL scope to complete an early M21 replica rifle

When the AK NG got the M21s in the late 80s early 90s (replacing the M1C/Ds) they were the first generation, the same as I used in the AMUs sniper school in 78. I was running the AK sniper program and screwed up when offered either the M21s or M24s, I was told if I took the M21s I could...

    My new rifle

Love the wood. Never did care for those plastic/fiberglass/rubber stocks. I need to get some Firm Grip Remover and clean up my stock a bit. I bought it in '77, ser. # 0068XX, as a standard, but since I was shooting for the Guard, Gene Barnett (Barnett Barrels and gunsmith for the MTU All...

Hunting & Fishing Does anyone use ozonics?

I used them for bear hunting. Really no way to really tell if they work or not over bait. When I first got mine. I put it in the corner in the house and to test it I turned it on, then put a hotdog behind it to see how my basset hounds reacted. If you know bassets you know they can smell...
