Ranging at night, but on a “budget”

Yep, UKD long range night shooting is made far easier with that little gem.

Let’s talk LPVO and SFP vs. FFP...

That is the best argument I've read in favor of a FFP LPVO, and that is coming from someone who doesn't like them. Well put.

Ranging at night, but on a “budget”

I doubt you will be disappointed. I've had three or four, all great units. For unknown distance long range night shooting, I would be lost without it. When Brownells was blowing them out for ~$360 a piece, I should've bought more. Hindsight is 2020.

    Thermal coyote kill at 880

Awesome shooting, well done. For coyotes, wild hogs, and other garbage vermin, a decent hit is still at least a temporary mission kill for that piece of shit even if it doesn't die right away. After all, the calves don't get short, relatively painless deaths at the hands of the yotes. No one...

Let’s talk LPVO and SFP vs. FFP...

For me, it is FFP for everything except LPVOs. A reticle that is super tiny on 1x and only really fast if brightly illuminated does not interest me in the slightest. I would be slightly more interested if the battery life on LPVOs was equivalent to an Aimpoint, but it most certainly is not. I...

    LocTite rings?

I don't so much anymore, but did use thread locker for several years. A set of rings that I installed when I was a teenager (before I had a torque wrench) came loose ~10 years later at the wrong time, that leaves an impression on a person. I still do use it on autoloaders due to the vibration...

Coyote Down at 552 yards N-Vision Halo LR

PM coming your way, I'm doing a few glow in the dark dope cards this week since I have the stuff to do them.

Nice shooting, what were you using to provide range?

Night Vision What color steel for night shooting

I use black painted steel with a white circle for NV targets, works great. Obviously, once you've turned the white part gray from shooting it you will want to repaint to maintain the sharp contrast. Or, you can dial up/left/right a bit and plug away at it for longer without needing to repaint...

    Accessories WTS VITAL2 mil-spec Class1 IR laser w/ papers used $450

The laser sold a long time ago, but I do have one more complete laser package available. I have sold off all the extra paddles and tape switches that I had. Thanks.

Night Vision PVS30 tips, tricks, and technique

I too have found that setting the parallax to infinity does not usually achieve optimal focus on the target. This had been the case with 27s, 30s, KN203s and AN/PAS-13G. 27s and KN203s are by FAR the easiest to focus in position. Out of curiosity, how is a 34mm scope tube beneficial in...

    I hope this don’t suck

The KN203 w/ side accessory rail is a match made in heaven w/ the Radius, I rocked that setup for a couple years before switching to the 27. The cost effectiveness of the KN203 simply cannot be overstated. I do like that this new Sector unit has a smaller form factor and is lighter, I really...

    I hope this don’t suck

A visible laser was my theory as well, not that I see ever using it in that capacity. I was just using my Radius and PVS-27 tonight, I have no idea what I would do w/o the capability that a rail mounted rangefinder provides. I too will play guinea pig for ~$1k.

    I hope this don’t suck

I hope it is accurate and holds zero. If they price it around $1k, they will sell a ton to the night vision community.

Rifle Scopes Primary Arms acss reticle

I'm a night optics snob but not a day optics snob, so take this for exactly what you paid for it. I've had three ACSS 1-6 and two ACSS 1-8 SFP scopes and liked them all. They are just spectacular for the money. The turrets are largely mush (these are not dialing scopes, as you pointed out)...

Rifle Scopes Vortex Pro Series Rings ?

I have three sets and really like them. This is going to sound really odd, but I have been putting their 30mm 1.26" rings on AR15s since it puts the cheekweld just about perfect w/ magnified optics and a standard stock. This will basically rule out having any BUIS but the rings are not QD...

Night Vision Pvs27 Rail to Top height

I just measured mine, 3.75" from the top of the rail to the highest point which is the retention cord on the objective lens cover. This is with the lens cover flipped to the top of the unit so you can see out of it; basically where it would be during use unless you have removed the lens cover.

    Ruger American 6.5 Creedmoor

Mine shoots great as well, right around 0.75 MOA consistently with Hornady American Gunner 140 gr BTHP. I bought it for deer and to use as a lightweight long range gun, works great. The barrel heats up pretty quickly and starts throwing shots, but that is to be expected for the barrel profile...

Rifle Scopes FYI - Athlon Ares ETR 1-10x28!

Agreed, wholeheartedly. I want FFP in everything EXCEPT LPVOs. I've tried several LPVOs and honestly prefer the SFP Primary Arms SLX 1-8 gen 3 w/ its SFP reticle that is large and fast at 1x whether there is illumination or not. I also like that only the donut/chevron is illuminated. I'm...
