    I doubt you will be disappointed. I've had three or four, all great units. For unknown distance long range night shooting, I would be lost without it. When Brownells was blowing them out for ~$360 a piece, I should've bought more. Hindsight is 2020.

    I use black painted steel with a white circle for NV targets, works great. Obviously, once you've turned the white part gray from shooting it you will want to repaint to maintain the sharp contrast.     A visible laser was my theory as well, not that I see ever using it in that capacity. I was just using my Radius and PVS-27 tonight, I have no idea what I would do w/o the capability that a rail mounted rangefinder provides. I too will play guinea pig for ~$1k.

    I just measured mine, 3.75" from the top of the rail to the highest point which is the retention cord on the objective lens cover. This is with the lens cover flipped to the top of the unit so you can see out of it; basically where it would be during use unless you have removed the lens cover.
