    Got some Walker Razors after reading this thread. They are very good. Solid noise protection, slim enough to get a cheek weld, and active noise compression is nice.

    Recommend scope base/rail for a budget R700

    I recently changed over from two-piece mounts to a rail on my 700 (a modified 1995 VS in .308). I went with a Weaver Picatinney rail and Seekins low (.82) rings. Took it out yesterday and put 60 rounds through it. All nice and tight.

    What he said. My modified 1995 700 VS shot roughly 1" groups at 100 yards (from bags and a bench rest) with 168 gr Federal Gold Match. With 168 gr Hornady Amax I can shoot .5" (again from bags and a bench). But with 168 gr Powershocks it goes to about 2". Microscopic faults in rifling...

    I completely agree. There's always a lot of hand wringing and arguing over "the best" way to do things. The bottom line is; do you hit what you're aiming at most of the time? If so, you've found the best way for you. Don't screw with what works.

    I have a 3x15. It’s not some high tech operator machine, but for shooting predators at 200 yards it’s okay. I would suggest a better Illuminator though.

    I have a 0 MOA rail on my 700 and can’t seem to find rings that get the scope (44mm objective-30mm tube) as low as I’d like. Right now the base of the bell is about 3/8 of an inch off the barrel Any suggestions?
