For heavy semi auto use I've been happy with Manta Defense:

It's much more secure than my Rifles Only HAD and also a much better insulator.
A 12x20 target at 300 yards isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.
Literally any optic will let you do that. A basic 1-4 with a duplex is fine out to 300 yards on a target that big. Hell, red dots are fine for that.
The whole purpose of a modern FFP 1-8 is to expand the capability of the...
I would be really curious to know the sales numbers of the Nova reticles compared to their normal chevrons.
I do kind of wish the Nova PLX-C was a 1-6 instead of 8x. It gets pretty tight and dark when you get over 7x. I'd rather have the usable mil stadia at 6x with better IQ and FOV
Does anyone have experience with the non illuminated TMR in FFP? It looks like it could be useable at 2.5x... hard to judge based on just the spec sheet.
I'd be happy with a simple mil dot reticle honestly. If we're really getting crazy maybe half mil lines.
Hell of a lot more useful than a BDC or standard duplex.
The Eotech doesn't look like it solves any of my problems. Amd it's heavier.
I did add a piggyback red dot. That helps for most short range stuff. Last comp I left the scope at 2x and used the dot most of the time.

No details on the Eotech site yet.
Don't like the description of the reticles.
No doubt, shots through the brain put them down.
"Glancing blows" is to be expected with RN ammo. Not always, but the right angle and conditions will allow it. The same phenomenon has been documented with pistol ammo in people.
Surprised to see the suggestions of using RN ammo. It'll work sometimes but Ive had many "got aways" from RN ammo. Even direct head shots aren't reliable. I've had multiple headshots that resulted in a squirrel being knocked unconscious only to start moving again after a period of time. I...
As everyone else has said, a bolt action with sub sonic HPs is the way. Preferably with a can.
I use CZ 452s.
My preferred ammo is Eley SSHP. Very accurate and very soft lead. The CCI 45gr HP suppressor ammo is also good.
That's odd. I'm using the Bootleg on a minimally gassed 12.5 with an A5H2.
The 12.5 barrel is a BRT with their "EX-C" length gas port. It's between mid and carbine.
I also have a Bootleg.
It works well but:
- it has less adjustment range than a gas block. If your rifle is severely over gassed it probably wont be enough
- even in the "normal" position it still seems to cycle slower than a standard BCG. Normally no big deal, but if you have an optimized...
223 absolutely works with correct placement, although I've witnessed SMK do poorly. I helped recover a deer that had multiple hits from a 77 SMK in the chest with almost no internal damage. I wonder if SMK is more velocity dependent? He had a 16" AR and was using a slow factory load like...
It's a shame. The PLX-C is a great design that's really hampered by the reticle. I'm not all that concerned about illumination, I just want a clean and usable reticle like the FC-DMx or Athlon Helos 2-12.
The PLX-C is a great optical design but the reticles suck IMO. PA has a bizarre obsession with combining chevrons (which suck for precision) and multiple ranging ladders/trees. It's like 75% of the reticle isn't even there for shooting.
I'm tempted to swap my PLX-C to an NX8 for the improved...
