    Cortina Precision Mandrel Dies

Sorry not quite on topic. What’s interesting is the sizing of the base. I have a ring die and its ID is .4675 which will size the base from .470 down to .4685 - .469 (Lapua Brass) so it depends on your brass spring back. I confirmed with RCBS, Redding and Forster on their small base die and the...

Why don't aluminum chassis use anodized coating?

I buy the matrix and right after pro comes out, then slim check riser comes out and now anodizing. I should never buy too early 😭😭😭

Why don't aluminum chassis use anodized coating?

If I had a choice I would choose anodizing too. How much is anodizing mpa matrix chassis?

Brass from a sold rifle to my current rifle.

Ahh no problem, simple answer is if the chambers have different base sizes when you use brass from one chamber to another and the die doesn’t size the base of the brass .200 line enough the bolt clicks at the top when you go to extract the fired case. Here is a better explanation or example...

Brass from a sold rifle to my current rifle.

I think you answered your own question. If the sized brass cycles without issues load up some rounds shoot it and see if it ejects smoothly. You may or may not have clickers depending on the chamber size and the base of the brass. Assuming it’s not a tight neck chamber the shoulder bump is...

I could use some help choosing dies

Try a Whidden bushing FL sizing die. It will size the neck and shoulder less to not over work the brass and size the base smaller to prevent clickers. When it’s on sale you can save some coin. You will need a few neck bushings. Cortina makes a mandrel die that uses 21st centry mandrels. You’ll...

    Smokey Shoulders

First firing of Lapua brass probably had more neck tension which most likely caused it to seal off the chamber better when fired. Try sizing 50-75% of the neck only on your Lapua brass and see what happens. Or increase the neck tension to create more pressure to fully expand the necks on firing.

Sizing dies: custom vs bushing vs standard

The difference between my Whidden custom die and Redding die is that the Whidden sizes the brass maybe .001-.002 in the body area vs the Redding/rcbs/Forster sizes the shoulder neck junction and body .004 smaller in some areas. The base also gets sized smaller with the custom die to prevent...

    Smokey Shoulders

I’m about .020 off the lands. I ran the speed up and down testing and still have carbon on the shoulders of annealed brass. I have a .272 chamber running .268 loaded round. Could it be more neck clearance?

    Smokey Shoulders

I get the oppposite results the non annealed cases have carbon on the shoulder. You use a .243 bushing? What is your loaded round?

I need dies to just size the base.

Small base dies size the entire case back to factory and really works the brass hard to get the base down to size. Get a ring die to just size the base only. Check out pbike on accurate shooter forum for a ring die or Paul on the FB posts.

New barrel, used/sized brass won’t chamber help

Very good points. The reamer that was used has a .4704 base so the die needs to size the base at a min .469 but hotter loads really work the base. He makes the ring die with various specs. I got a .4675 which helped get that base smaller without touching any portion of case except the base. The...

maybe this will help those in the future with tight base or clicker issues and don't want to use a small base die. Small base dies really works the brass back to factory.
