    Marlin XT-22 as a cheap 22 trainer?

We have the Caldwell mounted on ours, no problem Caldwell XLA 9" to 13" Pivot Model Bipod I can't be completely sure, but I think they mount the same as a Harris. Have had them on the guns since the day we got them about one year ago. They see nearly weekly use and the bipods are still nice...

    Marlin XT-22 as a cheap 22 trainer?

I'll differ here. I've a Savage 93FVSS and as I mentioned we have two XT-22's in the family. The fit and finish on the Marlin's are the equal of the Savage. I can't make a direct comparison between them as the Savage is a WMR...but again, if a 9 year old can regularly pull if 1.25" groups at...

    Marlin XT-22 as a cheap 22 trainer?

I have two young sons and they both have these guns...so two samples in total. Build quality in my mind is pretty good...not CZ good...but hey, a CZ isn't $200. There was some internet chatter a year or so ago (when we bought ours) about some QC issues, primarily iron sights that were not lined...

Info request: Out of the box accuracy - CZ455 vs Savage Mk II

I completely get you Armor. I bought my Savage because of some of the things I'd read on forums like this. I bought it because I believe that it is as accurate as the average CZ...and I could put the extra money into mods/accessories that would make it even better. I got a bit of a rude...

    Smartphone wind meter

I'll wait to see some feedback. I'd fear it would be like the camera in your i-Phone...a lot of people say the photos are just as good as from a camera. They obviously don't know what a good photo looks like, especially once it's blown up past 5x7". My Kestrel factors in a lot of info other...

Info request: Out of the box accuracy - CZ455 vs Savage Mk II

Totally agree Mako. You see a lot of comparisons of teeny 100yd groups shot off a rest on a windless say. To me, any quality rifle should shoot pretty close to 1MOA under these circumstances. Recently I've been stretching my Savage .22WMR out to 200-300 yds off a bi-pod. On Sunday when I was...

    Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 Shopping

I've just started looking for a 1911 .45. Decided that my GSG 1911 .22 just has to have a full sized brother. Been researching for about 10 days now...I just can't find a bad review of the Ruger...anywhere. A fellow had one at the range last week and he let me try it. Now 2 mags doesn't really...

    need a quality range bag

I have this 5.11 Tactical Range Bag | 5.11 Tactical Range Ready Bag - Official 5.11 Site I've had it about 2 years now and it gets used at least weekly. I weighed it once...with ammo and everything it weighed in at 42lbs, yet I've had no issues with stitching, zippers or anything else.

How confidant are you; 3/4 inch consistantly at 100+ yards POLL

I get what you're saying Moses. This past weekend I was at the range with my Savage .22WMR. The wind was unpredictable and gusting to 25mph and I was having a devil of a time...a couple of solid 1.5" groups, but most had a least one flyer that would open up the group to 3" . Then I put a...

How confidant are you; 3/4 inch consistantly at 100+ yards POLL

And wind is so important with rimfire. Was out yesterday with my .22WMR which normally shoots right around 1MOA with NO wind and when I'm having a good day (otherwise about 1.5MOA). Yesterday wind of 10mph with numerous gusts to 25mph. Wow...those 3" groups are sure disheartening ;-)

    Before I buy spotting scope...

Actually I've read that at anything beyond 100-200 yds the spotting scope is better for detecting mirage. The increased magnification one usually gets with a spotting scope outweighs the depth perception of the bino's, which tends to be minimal at longer ranges. (for this, nothing beats a...

How confidant are you; 3/4 inch consistantly at 100+ yards POLL

jbell...I loved that thread when you first posted it. I have two boys, 9 &12. On a good day the 12 year old can outshoot quite a few adults at our range, and the 9 year old is progressing nicely. In a few years I expect to be making lame excuses as to why their outshooting me (see...

How confidant are you; 3/4 inch consistantly at 100+ yards POLL

jbell... from some of your previous posts I can say I'd actually like to spend an afternoon shooting with you...I have a feeling I'd learn a few things that would help my shooting. I didn't mean to ruffle anyone's feathers either. I just wish /hope that when skilled people do post they mention...

How confidant are you; 3/4 inch consistantly at 100+ yards POLL

JBELL...shooting like this would get you qualified for ISSF shooting competition, in the 3 position class, which would be closest to what we're talking here. Your statement "In low to no winds 5 for 5 no prob"...especially the 'no prob' part does not at all help the new guy stuggling to get his...

How confidant are you; 3/4 inch consistantly at 100+ yards POLL

TP....yeah, I've always been amazed at how many Olympic quality shooters we have on the forums. What I love is listening to the excuses from these people when I'm at the range. "Man, the wind is sure playing havoc with my shooting" "The barrel needs a good cleaning" "My mind is just not there...

Sidearms & Scatterguns I did it!

U-Tube can be a godsend. This brings back an old memory (mid '70's) when I was apprenticing for my Heavy Duty ticket. We'd finished a rebuild of a Cat scraper engine...and on the bench were 3 bolts that for the life of us couldn't figure out where they went. The mechanic said to fire it up...
