    Your guys rock!!

I've struggled for a year with the Savage 93FVSS I purchased last year. Started out shooting 2.5" groups at 100m (110ys). I'd hoped or better, though I started to read that this wasn't all that bad from the WMR cartridge. Well...a year later and a better scope (Hawke Tactical), decent bi-pod...

Rifle Data Book recommendation, free'er is better

It's the old 'why re-invent the wheel' kinda thing. As with others I use the Impact Data....5 minutes on their website and I've ordered a set of pages that are pretty much exactly what I want. I ordered enough for the year early this spring...about $20 and delivered to my door in a week. As...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Just got myself a ka-bar, anything I need to know?

Damn you all ;-) I've been looking at Ka-Bars...the quintessential knife. But have been holding off because I really don't need one. Thanks to this thread I just pulled the trigger on Amazon. Should be here end of week.

    Is this the wind?

Thanks guys...that's what I thought. I've shot in 10-15mph breezes and the groups have opened up some, but Saturday was dramatic. Then again a fellow at the next bench actually have the wind knock his gun over...so I guess a 40gr bullet would be tossed around pretty good.

    Is this the wind?

I've a Savage 93FVSS (.22WMR) that on a pretty consistent basis shoots 1.25" at 100m. So this weekend I was getting 2" and a bit groups with a wind of 20mph gusting to 35mph blowing at right angles. Is a .22WMR affected this much by wind. I'm hoping the answer is yes!!

    Savage FVSR Range Report

50yds?! That would suck. This weekend I had my 93FVSS out in the wind (gusts to 25mph coming from 9 o'clock) shooting at 150m. About 1/2 the shots stayed in the 3" bull of the target I was shooting at, the rest added up to a 5" 20 shot group. Boy, does wind every wreak havoc with a rimfire round...

    Most important piece of kit

A good toque (I think you yanks call them knit hats). With 6 months of winter where much of it is below freezing this is my most important gear. I've arrived at the range to realize I forgot my Kestrel, or my data book (or a myriad other things) and still have a good shooting session. There...

Statement from Kestrel. Battery corrosion. Must Read.

Really lets put this to rest. Here is a quote from a battery manufacturerer: "Lithium batteries can provide extremely high currents and can discharge very rapidly when short-circuited. Although this is useful in applications where high currents are required, a too-rapid discharge of a lithium...

Are there any "tactical" style clothes available that are Berry Admendment compliant?

I know it's not American Drop Zone Tactical is about a 15 minute drive from where I live (Edmonton, Canada). A bit more expensive than Chinese stuff...but it's my fellow countrymen who are employed.

Info request: Out of the box accuracy - CZ455 vs Savage Mk II

Another thing I discovered this weekend was how much your shooting range can affect your shooting. At our facility we have a rimfire range that is 100m (Canada, ya know). On either side of it are bigbore ranges that start at 100m and go out to 500m. The rimfire range is, at its widest about...

    Getting the kids into firearms

I started my boys (now 9 & 12) two years ago. Each received a Marlin XT-22 at Christmas (they had been taught safety for a year on their Red Ryder's). Kept them on the supplied open sights for 6 months to learn the basics then added a decent scope (Leapers 4-16X). My 9 year old can shoot...

Statement from Kestrel. Battery corrosion. Must Read.

Look at it this way. Thousands of happy Kestrel users, including pro and military users. Google 'Kestrel battery issues' (I just did). All that comes up are this thread and a thread from a New Zealand forum...referencing this thread. Really...it's a non issue. I sell photographic equipment to...

Statement from Kestrel. Battery corrosion. Must Read.

Cobra...some of what you say is true...but in language I hope you can understand...you sound like a fucking ignorant asshole. Uhhh...is that clear enough for you. My teenage son (14) who is learning to shoot at distance reads this forum and you sir are a blight on humanity.

Need some advise on what gear I'm missing

Too much gear is useless if you don't know how to use it. I'll second those who've said a bi-pod, rear bag, kestrel and a good bag to shove it all in. AND THEN EDUCATION. I spent a lot of money on scope levels, inclination meters, shooting apps, etc (all useful when you know the basics) and...

    2013 Leica Geovid

There is a copy of the manual on Leica's web page. The limit the unit will read out on the 12 preprogrammed ballistic setups is 875yds. It will calculate and read out to 1000yds on custom setups (which you input via an SD card)

No CCI rimfire for the time being?

Oh how true. When I was at my dealers today I picked up two bulk paks (1000) rounds of the Blazer...at the rate we shoot that will last the month. Another fellow at the counter was buying a case (again, I don't know what is in a case...I'm thinking at least 10 bulk paks). His...

No CCI rimfire for the time being?

Was at my local dealer this morning. They had just unloaded 10 cases of CCI Blazer (no idea how many bulk paks in a case) that they had ordered two weeks ago.

Info request: Out of the box accuracy - CZ455 vs Savage Mk II

The only land I can shoot on that isn't a 1.5 hour drive is fairly built up with acreages. I know that if I lived there I would not appreciate the 'bang' of centerfire rounds and my kids listening to the whine of .223 cartridges. .22 lets me practice and my neighbors not calling the cops. Course...

Affordable parts/accessories your 100% happy with?

x2 on the Caldwell bi-pod. I'm also completely happy with my Hawke 6.5x20 Sidewinder Tactical scope. At $500 it isn't what I'd call cheap...but it's a heck of a lot less expensive then the top end glass. At the 200m I use it at (it's on a Savage .22WMR) it performs as well (IMO) as scopes that...
