Gunsmithing ? On PTG Bolt Body

As far as why the "skim cut", I'd bet they rough machine then heat treat in batches. Then the finish grind the dimensions that matter when the customer orders.

    Surgeon Action?

I haven’t personally tried 1.450”, but I think it would be pushing it. The barrel shoulder may go slightly behind the upper most facets on the receiver. The picture is with a 1.375” shank for reference. Not overly accurate, but placing a .025” feeler gauge on the barrel shank against the...

    Dealing with tight headspace

Brass is not a gauge. Wait for your gauges before doing anything.

Gunsmithing Anyone pre-bore with the floating reamer holder?

I'm thinking the female on those cut with a 90* spot drill and it would be better than trying to match the ball, personally. Also, on the shoes, I think a vee shape would be better than trying to match the barrel diameters. You'd end up with 8 points of "wedge" contact, vs. potentially only 4...

Gunsmithing Anyone pre-bore with the floating reamer holder?

I think if I was worried about a drill op moving my workpiece, I’d be looking at a different way to hold my workpiece.

    Proof barrel issue

Ah, that's the part I was missing.

    Proof barrel issue

If you bought it as a blank, I highly doubt the seller of the blank has any fault in how the finish product shoots.

    Gunsmithing Barrel alignment

Just because the muzzle is at the high point, that doesn't guarantee the bore is facing in an upward attitude.

    Gunsmithing Barrel alignment

Curious how many builders that “time” the barrel, verify it is still “timed” when not stressed between two independent chucks, and freely hanging from a single end at the receiver.

    Gunsmithing Lathe and mill suggestions

A "Bridgeport" typically is a knee mill. Sure, they make many other machines, but a "Bridgeport" is the "Crescent Wrench" of the knee mills.

    Gunsmithing Brass sticking in chamber

It’s not polished too much, unless by polish you mean sanding it to point the chamber body is shaped like a football. First thing I’d try is new brass in this chamber. I’d bet it’ll size and extract just fine after that.

Gunsmithing Getting started making my Own barrels

I’d assume it’s because most people are already long settled into their job/career long before the idea of fitting their own barrels pops into their head.

Gunsmithing Getting started making my Own barrels

That's a good one to review. My biggest piece of advice, look at as many ways as you can, and use the one that you actually understand and makes the most sense to you. Never pick your way simply because some random person on the internet said it's the way to do it. I have some photos on that...

Gunsmithing Funky throat pictures on a fresh cut barrel.

If I am looking at this correctly, what I see looks pretty typical. There's one thing that confuses me, the mark on the upper land/leade, but it is most likely due to the angle of the bore scope.

Gunsmithing Funky throat pictures on a fresh cut barrel.

It does not look like it in picture. It looks pretty normal to me. If the grooves are oversize, you'd see them in the free bore. I did have a batch of barrels where rifling was still visible (all of them evenly) in the free bore. The reamer was verified on size. Without going any further...
