    Gunsmithing Tight chamber?

Again, in spec is in spec. I don’t have the 6GT print in front of me at the moment, but if there’s .004” between go/no-go, anywhere in between there isn’t sloppy, it’s in spec. Measuring brass, fired from different rifles, chambered with different reamers, checked with different gauges, isn’t a...

    Gunsmithing Tight chamber?

Go +.0005” will drop on a go gauge and not on a no-go. In spec is in spec.

    Gunsmithing chambering question for gunsmiths

I agree with LRI, batching your barrels is the way to go if you want true interchangeability with your brass. Especially if machined on a CNC machine, all the chambers will be essentially identical, as well as all other dimensions.

    Gunsmithing chambering question for gunsmiths

I don’t think that’s a guarantee I’d make either. I could guarantee it measures that in the machine, but it’s pretty optimistic for an assembled guarantee. If I do multiple barrels at the same time, they’ll easily be within .0005” HS of each other. All my barrels will be within zero and .002”...

    Gunsmithing Workbench ?

I use cheap carpet mats from Home Depot. It’s been a while since I bought them, but I think a 3 pack was well under $10. The edges are seamed so it’s not like lose carpet. When I first get them, I flip them upside down and make squiggling beads of silicone on the bottom and let dry. This keeps...

Gunsmithing Need advice from Master Gunsmiths

It’s a simple barrel tenon. I hand write all my programs. I guarantee I can hand write a barrel program start to finish and run it faster than someone could do one on a manual machine.

Gunsmithing 4-Jaw vs. Spider on the Spindle

I make diameter/taper specific collet “adapters” when working on the muzzle end. This really isn’t practical on a manual lathe. I still use a set-tru style 6J chuck/#4 solid copper wire when doing muzzle work on the manual machine (which is something I really try to avoid...)

    Gunsmithing Question on Grizzly/Gritters Rods....

You’re never going to have the same indicator “zero” at two points in the barrel with this method. You don’t need to. All you are measuring is movement.

    Gunsmithing Question on Grizzly/Gritters Rods....

Quick bored in hotel room sketch... Dashed line is the spindle centerline. To the right is a misaligned tailstock holding the "Grizzly Rod". Top two sketches are with the bore misaligned, 180 degrees apart. Bottom is the bore aligned to the spindle centerline. Again, the tailstock alignment has...

    Gunsmithing mini-lathe worth investing in?

You can make small parts on a big lathe. It’s harder to make big parts on a small lathe.

    Gunsmithing Question on Grizzly/Gritters Rods....

You are thinking of it incorrectly. The alignment of the holder 11”-12” away is insignificant. You are measuring movement on the rod. The rod is not spinning.

    Rebarreling rifles need an FFL?

Leaving or not leaving the action/firearm is not the deciding factor if you need an FFL or not. That only pertains to if it needs to be logged into your book or not. If you are working on firearms as a course of business, you absolutely need to have an FFL, regardless if they are left with you...

Gunsmithing Gunsmith opinion on Titanium vs Steel action

Maybe a better question is has anyone seen a TI receiver fail when a steel receiver wouldn’t have? Has anyone worn out a TI action?

Gunsmithing Gunsmith opinion on Titanium vs Steel action

I’ve fit a bunch of Proof Research CF barrels to Fuzion TI actions and have not had a problem, not have I heard problems from the customer. It’s a neat combo.

Gunsmithing 4-Jaw vs. Spider on the Spindle

I use an adjustable 16C on the turning center for barrel work. I use a 6 jaw set-tru type chuck on the manual. The 6 jaw set-tru is way easier to dial in than an independent 4 jaw. You are not changing the pressure on the jaws when dialing it in.
