    Maggie’s Motivational Pic Thread v2.0 - - New Rules - See Post #1

Years ago two separate riding buddies back in '82 or so. One had a brand new Honda Magna 1100 he dumped on a rain grooved freeway at 137 (redline in fifth gear, would not pull redline in sixth cruising gear) when it went into head shake. After it spit him off it straitened up and ran down the...

    Intermittent Heavy Bolt Lift

Well, he seems to have matched my velocity with a 6.5 X 284 and a 29" barrel. He obviously shows some real potential for something. Maybe the Darwin award. That or he's just a troll.

Does Lot# really matter when reloading?

Depends, if you're loading a middle of the road load for plinking it shouldn't be a problem. However, if you're running a hot load right on the edge and the new batch of powder is a little hotter you could for instance blow a primer and flame cut your bolt head. If your running a stupid hot...

    Reloading 22-250

Been using RL-15, WLR primers and 50 gr V-max for about 25 years now. Yeah, RL-15 is a little dirty and maybe a little temperature sensitive but I did a LOT of load testing and it was most accurate if not the absolute fastest. Getting 3600 fps out of a 23" barreled walking varminter, a real...

Ammo Prices: The Panic is On - Big Time

At my age I've seen panic buying/shortages come and go. Learned a long time ago to keep enough inventory on hand to not be bothered by any of it. Loaded ammo, reloading supplies, I'm covered.. On the other hand, the toilet paper shortage is troubling.

    What about Brady??

I think the Pats organization is in for a few rough seasons at the very least. No Gronk, Edelman the only remaining decent receiver, an offensive line like tissue paper and no top RB. Can't blame the entirety of last season on Brady getting old. Then there was the AB debacle. A lot of the Pat...

Movie Theater GREYHOUND WW2 Atlantic convoy/destroyer movie with Tom Hanks

In the early days of the war, before the US entered, merchant ships were not armed and seldom escorted. Shells for the deck gun were less expensive than torpedoes. U-boats were typically faster than freighters on the surface so there was no getting away. Even after the US entered into the war...

Goodbye to a suck ass year

Here's to the end of a shitstorm of a year. A little good but mostly bad. A few thoughts I've mulled over. 1. To my last long time friend who passed. Life ain't the same buddy. We sure did a lot of crazy shit back in the day and I sure thought I'd kick off first. I couldn't believe it when you...

6-284 seeking help with 1K Loads

What works in my rifle: Lapua brass, Lapua 139 gr Scenar, H4350 at 48.7 gr with the lot number I have, CCI primers. I have a custom chamber with a fair amount of freebore and seat the bullets quite long seated into the lands. H4831 and RL-22 (with a Winchester primer) have worked well too. Go to...

CZ 527 17 Hornet Varmint: Gunsmith says to support barrel for accuracy

Yup, knew that. What I was pointing out was that, for a minimal recoil rifle such as a 17 HMR or 17 Hornet, bedding with proper torque of the action generally tightens up accuracy. As far as the fall off in accuracy goes, tiny bores foul quickly, nothing unexpected there. At fifty yards (keeps...

CZ 527 17 Hornet Varmint: Gunsmith says to support barrel for accuracy

I have a few CZs, from 17HMR to .416 Rigby. Those that didn't shoot well out of the box tightened up with a good bedding job (walnut stocks). The .17 HMR barrel starts to fall of accuracy wise after about 30 rounds or so.

    RCBS’s new “Chargemaster”

I got one of the first Chargemasters, it died and they sent me another. That one has worked fine ever since, at least ten years. Yes, I use a power conditioner, yes I let it warm up for awhile before use, yes I close the cover every charge thrown and no I didn't change the programming to speed...

    Dillon 550 vs 650 vs 750

I've been using a Dillon 650 for the last twenty years. It worked perfectly the first time I set it up and has worked without a hitch since. I have tool heads set up for a few cartridges which is quite convenient. A few notes. The powder thrower doesn't throw coarse stick powders that well, so...

    6.5-284

Dan - Your site lists load data for the 121, not the 123. Are there possible differences in bullet profile such as bearing length which would prevent using the 121 data for the 123? Also, every possible powder is listed and given barrel life for a 6.5 X 284 what powders in your experience work...

    6.5-284

Straight up 6.5 X 284, 28" barrel, 139 Scenars. Really good node at 2940 or so, easier on the barrel than pushing it up to 3120 which is the next node and a hot load. It's a match rifle so it only gets shot at 1,000 yards. Lucky to get 1,000 rounds of match accuracy out of a barrel. it is very...

    Starting out

Shoot first. Buy a good scope which can be transferred to another rifle. Try OTHER PEOPLES rifles to check out things that might interest you, it's a lot cheaper than buying untested from internet recommendations and finding it doesn't suit you.
