Your smith owes you a new receiver and rail.

Hunting rifle for Elk? Total noob.

It's been a long time since I could ridge run, but a .270 worked fine. Make the first shot the last shot. Keep in mind you'll be packing out 600-800 lbs. with a successful hunt.

Movie Theater Ready Player One, Really Good IMO.

Stale plot, young kid and his plucky troop of misfits against the evil overlord and his storm troopers. The special effects were so-so. The acting average.

Sidearms & Scatterguns Reliability threshold for carry?

I've noted that my Python hasn't had a fail to feed or fail to fire in the last forty years. Or an even older Smith snubbie for that matter.

New upper build... adjustable gas block or fixed?

My first experience with a adjustable gas block was years ago with an inch pattern FN-FLR (L1A1). Eleven detent positions, one no gas for blanks and grenade launching (or so I was told about the grenade launching). Anyway, rather than flinging brass into the next county and pounding the hell out...

    2005 Remington 700 Trigger Question

I don't remember what year it was, but there is a problem with trying to adjust some Remington triggers. The little coil springs were so stiff (a supposed safety measure) the triggers could not be reliably adjusted to a reasonable pull weight. That was the issue with my VS-SF. I just bought a...

    Barrel contour question

Shouldn't be a problem for a .223 unless there is a problem with the barrel. Only way to be sure is to shoot it.

    Ejector marks with starting loads?

Hogdon states the max load is 40 gr of H4350 using Hornady brass, a Federal #210M and a 2.820" COAL. The internal volume of Starline may be different which would affect what the max load could be, a different primer could affect it also. That said your brass does show ejector marks quite...

Is a tikka action Long/strong enough for 338 lapua

The bolt face can be opened up, seen it done, doesn't leave a lot of meat behind. As far as length goes it can always be single loaded. But once again, not anything I would recommend. Just because something can be done doesn't make it a good idea.

    Chargemaster Lite vs Flourescent Lights?

LED lights put noise back in the line two, they have a rectifier built in which is where the noise comes from. My Chargemaster is plugged in to a power conditioner/surge suppresser, gets warmed up for half an hour before use, is on a dead level surface, has a ferrite on the power cord, has a...

    Stock to chassis and back?

I've tried a couple of metal stocks but didn't really like them. I'm old and set in my ways. My last three stocks have been McMillan A-5s with three way adjustable butt plates, adjustable cheek rests (not the sliding plastic saddle) and accessory rails. Fit is not an issue which is exactly why...

Is a tikka action Long/strong enough for 338 lapua

I would never recommend it for safety reasons. A 1.35" diameter action and a barrel shank to match chambered for the large diameter Lapua cartridge would not leave a lot of metal around the chamber for a high pressure cartridge. Yeah, some manufacturers have done it, but when I wanted a Rigby...

What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

The following are things I've run across. One dumb, two dangerous and damn lucky, and one deadly. At the Hurlburt Field rifle range a guy was bragging about how he had chambered his barrel himself. First shot the case wouldn't extract. After pounding the case out it had a banana shape. Turned...

What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

Not something I heard, but something that was done. Some years ago at the ASC range (nice facility) on the west side of Houston I was working with a new rifle at the 300 yard range and as I was shooting this clown started walking down range to hang targets. I asked him what the fuck he thought...

Best reloading press as well as other equipment recommendations

Everyone has their own personal favorite when it comes to presses, and it's usually the one they own, That said any good quality press should serve you well for decades. I load my match ammunition on a Rockchucker I've had for around 40 years. I figure if I keep cleaning and oiling the ram and...

What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

Many years ago while helping a friend herd some dairy cows back into the pasture they had gotten out of, there was one particularly recalcitrant near full grown heifer that just wouldn't go. He got frustrated and threw a softball sized rock hitting it more or less right between the eyes. To our...

    Die Recommendations

Reddings have been my choice for die sets for more than 40 years. I use their competition micrometer seating dies for a few chamberings and my results are such that I'm not tempted to try new stuff. You know the old saying if it ain't broke...

Are our Precision Rifles the new AR, complete with Ninja reviews?

Wait, what? You mean to say that all it takes to monetize talking about firearms is being able to write or speak at a second grade level or less (considering the state of education now days probably less). And just use some semi technical jargon and have something that passes as "tacti-cool"...
