    ELD-X vs ELD-M

Just google 6.5 143gr ELDX cross section and you'll get a bunch of photos. Nosler Ballistic Tips is an even greater example of drawing tapered copper jackets. https://panhandleprecision.com/hornady-143-grain-eld-x-review-hunting-performance-test/

    ELD-X vs ELD-M

With that said I sell 6.5 CM 143gr ELDX ammo all the time to my local hunters. One hunter took a huge ram, big buck, and a nice cow elk this year while hunting. I've seen a few decent bulls fall to that round too. I haven't got to hunt with ELDM's on big game yet but that's what I'll use in my...

    ELD-X vs ELD-M

The taper in the jacket requires more steps in the manufacturing process. More dies to be made to draw the tapered jacket. Add the interlocking rings again adds a step. That adds to the cost. There's more copper jacket material too, but the labor and added perception of a "hunting bullet" is...

    Best 5.56 bullet for Coyotes

At the risk of "thinking" my belief is that BTHP open up slower, which makes them a better choice for big game. Unless the opening is around 0.033" with a thin jacket. Then they open up violently, hard to find a middle ground for them. In the end I think we just got to use whatever we feel...

    Best 5.56 bullet for Coyotes

The difference between polymer tipped bullets and HPBT bullets for coyotes/ varmints is the polymer tipped bullets expand more reliably in yotes/ varmints at extended distances. But both are good when working within their operating parameters.

I don't. I make note of it and then drive on. I got bigger fish to fry. But thanks for the kind words.

    Best 5.56 bullet for Coyotes

Any of the bullets you listed will work that you listed. Rarely do plastic tips break off. I've had it on some seconds, but only if the tip looked degraded. Nosler Ballistic Tips work really well on coyotes but the base consistently exits leaving a silver dollar hole or greater depending on the...

    Student loans

What rubs me the wrong way is I had to pay into the GI Bill to get it when I was in the Army. And now I get to pay other people's loan debt. I didn't take a loan, I worked/ served to go to college. It's just wrong.

    Big game all-rounder

I'd just opt for at least a 338 WM if I were going to switch to supers. I understand your fascination with the 8.6. But for an all-rounder it wouldn't be my choice. If I wanted to stick with a larger bore I'd go 300 WM or 338 WM or bigger.

    Big game all-rounder

I've seen them but it wouldn't be my choice for a general-purpose hunter. Especially in sub sonic form it wouldn't be my choice for shots hunting out to 500 yards.

    Big game all-rounder

I haven't taken an elk with one but pharmseller has out past 500 yards. I think he's on here and is active on RO. My customers have taken elk out to 400 yards with both the 308 win and 7-08. As far as a quatering shot I believe that would be more dependent on bullet construction. Since I'm...

    Hunting Etiquette

Yes the context of discussion is public lands/ cooperative. So changing it to private in mid discussion should be in a different thread.

    Hunting Etiquette

I agree with this. I'm not a fan of people staking out areas in public lands. My general rule is if I arrive in an area and I see a rig I go somewhere else. That's part of my hunting rules. I have no interest in ruining someone else's hunt. I'd appreciate the same respect for my hunt.

Will 20 MOA scope base affect optical clarity of scope if sighted in at 100 yards?

To the OP I agree with the general consensus that you're worrying about nothing. You picked some great optics in NF so I wouldn't worry about any moa rail choice that uses the elev/ wind range. On my SWFA 10X I have a 50 moa rail and the clarity is fine for the scope. And the SWFA isn't near the...

Former endeavors that used to give joy and are fleeting now...

Hunting whistlepigs and rock chucks lost some of it's luster. I used to love it more than big game hunting. I would get buck fever early in the season hunting those little critters, but not when I hunted big game. I think training made me concentrate differently when big game hunting. Hunting...

Help me out on a Ruger American Gen2 Build

It should be in that ballpark. My KRG Bravo with Remington 700 7mm RM (1-8 tw) ADL starts out a pound heavier. With 4.5-14X50mm LR Tactical in GG&G rings is just over 10 lbs. With a lighter scope and aluminum rings you could be between 8-8.5 lbs.

Help me out on a Ruger American Gen2 Build

When I last looked any chassis stock is going to add at least a pound to your factory rifle. So your 8 lb goal is going to be tough unless you leave it stock. I put on a magpul stock on a customer's Gen I Ruger American 6.5 CM and with scope it ended up being around 10lbs. IMHO I'd shoot it as...

    concealed carry choice

S&W 686 or G23 when fishing since wolves, cougars and snakes are close by. When at work or summer Hellcat. considering a G43X or G48. When I hunted in Alaska a 4" S&W M29 went everywhere with me.

    7mm SAW

Still pretty good ballistics with the 7-08 considering the bullet BC and barrel length. I gotta get busy loading up for my new Howa Superlite.

    7mm SAW

Yeah during the pandemic the Nosler 260 rem brass I got had really tight primer pockets. I couldn't fully seat my primers so I cleaned them up with a primer pocket uniforming tool. Shot loose in 3 firings. But no one else had brass so I kept them. Thanks for the data.
