Sidearms & Scatterguns Favorite pistol caliber

.22 for plinking is just so hard to beat. For centerfire I go through enough 9mm it’s a line item in the budget. I pack .40 for my defense, lastly a bit of 45 for range enjoyment because that’s what real 1911s run on ?

    Measuring Groups in MIL

First, because math is hard, and conversions beyond “‘Bout an inch at dar hundred yards” (basic MOA) provides excess cognitive load for the average shooter. Second, humans in general are terrible at intuitively comprehending scale. Third, bias “anchoring” occurred with any number/price/system...

    Cerokote color

I find some of the olive or muted greens beautiful with wood stocks and black accents, but I could just be half a bubble off ?

    Bruce Lee

He’s cool. Between his discipline, work ethic, and ability to lean from others’ styles he created something unique at the time.

Best 308 155gr for hunting and all around if there is one

AMAX and ELDM bullets are not optimized for game. Why 155 gr and not another weight? At 150 grains the possibilities open up like crazy. Game king, ballistic tips, fusion, interlock, etc. A slightly lighter bullet optimized for expansion will vastly out perform a 5 gr heavier projectile on game...

    Suggestions for next gun purchase?

I’d add something precision/long range. Match 22, semi custom bolt action, or PCC for range giggles.

Suppressors Pre-SHOT Show .30 Cal First Can Suggestions?

Yes to any one of the 30 cal cans you mentioned. They are all solid, with some pretty good companies backing them. Do some research in the mounting options, if you plan on adding more cans in the future, as it is expensive to switch once you have a few cans. If I had to do it again, all my cans...

Which comes first, rifle or scope

While some trigger time is better than none, I tend to pick up items if I find a screaming deal, even if it is scope first. The last few months have had some scopes pop up at insane prices. Don’t be afraid of high quality used. Good luck!

    Suppressors Trust question

If it is your first suppressor, leave the assignment blank, as you technically don’t own the suppressor yet. The attorney I had create my trust told me that the assignment sheet was not necessary *with the way my trust was drafted*. Your trust may differ. I’ve also been told by the FFL making...

    Hello from OZ (ACT)

Welcome! My wife and I recently moved from the states to the ACT a few months back, beautiful country (excluding the current air quality). Haven’t yet jumped through the legal process of picking up my old hobbies, but am glad to know there are a few folks around who enjoy similar activities.

    G'day from NSW Australia

Thanks Kelly! Australia is one neat land, we’ve been exploring and trying to experience as much as we can. The Majura range is on the to-do list. However the hurdles to get legally equipped (my stuff in the US went into cold storage) have shifted items on the list, especially after moving, new...

    G'day from NSW Australia

Welcome! Recently moved from the states to the ACT. Cool area, although tough to keep up on my previous hobbies... Good luck on your course, and the reloading journey. It is fun and rewarding!

What’s a “good” 600 yard size group for an AR15?

1 MOA is an achievable, respectable place to start, especially when shooting at 600 yards. If you are shooting a stock AR, there may be some limiting factors inherent in the rifle. Once you begin the upgrade/precision process that is a never ending process to shrink group sizes. Good luck, have...

Guess I’m going to have to rig up my LED hat...

It’s not all about loss prevention/shrinkage, the data mining around buying patterns, sentiment analysis, linked products, etc are more important than ensuring shoppers have access to WiFi. Seven eleven and Lows are also using similar tech, albeit most companies are a bit hushed lipped about...

Guess I’m going to have to rig up my LED hat...

Walmart just makes it obvious they are using facial recognition, the tech is readily available and commonly used. Makes it easier to link your previous purchases to your account, spending behaviors etc. The more advanced stuff has eye tracking to build attention heat maps of where customers...

    Gearing Up Before a Ban

Along with the great pieces of advice above, a portion of any gun budget should also include a portion going to your favorite gun rights organization. This is often overlooked, but absolutely critical for staving off the day our liberty disappears.
