It's possible they just didn't want to have to completely redesign it since the other ones in the lineup utilize the full 1280 displays due to having a standalone mode. Was just easier to eliminate that mode via software on the xELR and leave the screen be.
Dan has texted me and confirmed that the xELR has a 1280 display in it but only utilizes 640 pixels. He said they did that to use less demag in the rear end.
The Surefire SR-D-IT switch is probably what you want. That or TNVC taps. I have physically cut and spliced surefire connectors onto the factory insight dual switch and it works fine.
It doesn't have an ir laser in conjunction with an ir illuminator so unless using for long range spotting it doesn't even come close to as useable as any of the above mentioned ir laser devices.
