Curious, how much free play does your bolt action have prior....

Umm, it varies. I have a Rem 700, trued by a BR smith. It has a loose bolt, several thousands between bolt diameter and action inside diameter. It is a 1/2 MOA gun. I have another 700, trued, with an oversize PTG bolt, lapped to fit the action. It is a 1/2 MOA gun. I have a Defiance...

Alliant Reloader 15 Scarece - Other Options for both .223 AND .308

On a different note, the original poster was looking for RL15 substitutes. Norma 203b is supposedly the same as RL15, from some reading I've done over on 6mmbr.com. Ive loaded 203b up with 155 Scenars in a TRG-22 308. 3000 fps, 1/2" accuracy. Good powder until the popular names are back in stock.

Anybody ever run an AR with NO a buffer , only the spring?

I would closely QC check the rifle to make sure it is still safe to fire. As mentioned, the gas key on the bolt carrier will crash into the receiver ring at the back of the lower receiver during recoil. This damages the lower, and can damage the gas key. The timing will be off on the firing...

Rifle Scopes Best glass for shooting out to 600 yards under $900?

It is not a 30mm tube, but you can find a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 or a 4.5-14x50 on sale for under your price criteria. They have the best glass of any 1" scope I've seen, and I feel they are the best scope out there for under $1000. Use delrin ring reducers if you have already bought rings...

    Redding Body Die Question

For another point of view. I have used Imperial, Dillon case lube, Hornady One-shot, all with mixed success. The one I use now is Ballistol. It lubricates extremely well, and is easier to remove than Imperial after sizing. I run this on a 550, 650 and 1050. I find the sizing effort is the...

    RL-15 Question - .308

I've been using Norma 203B instead of RL15. Seems to work very well. 155 Scenars in 308 up around 3000fps. One node at 2970, and another at 3020. 48-49.3gr, 2.90" OAL

    Best varmint rifle from factory?

I agree with Sporter. Coopers are very accurate rifles, I recently sold a 22PPC Model 21 that shot 3-shot groups in the ones. I would also add Dakota to that group.

    6.5 Super LR Loads

43.0 gr H4350 out of 26" Bartlein 5R 1:8 twist. 140gr AMAX or Berger Hybrid. seated .020" off the lands. CCI BR-2 primers. Winchester 243 Win brass. .25" groups when I do my part. 2825fps. I'm going to try H4831SC between 45 and 47 to see if it makes a difference.

    Fastest flattest screaming SOB

For pure speed I had a 22-250 shooting 40gr ballistic tips. 4250 fps. Made prairie dogs evaporate. Red mist. But I'll bet you want to shoot further that 40gr ballistic tips can go.

Eliseo Tube Gun Action - Pierce or Defiance? Need advice.

Of note, I shot my RTS yesterday at 480 and 530 yards. This uses a trued Remington action and a disk recoil lug. PTG bolt. Results = 2" groups on steel at that range. I'm happy.

Eliseo Tube Gun Action - Pierce or Defiance? Need advice.

The Mutant action has the lug as part of the action. Better explained by the picture of the action on the defiance website. It removes the need for a disk recoil lug entirely. Imagine the action diameter of 1.35." At the front of the action the diameter increases to about 1.5" or so. The...

Eliseo Tube Gun Action - Pierce or Defiance? Need advice.

My Mutant has the integral lug, and you get the advantage of a longer tenon length over the Rem/clone design with the disk lug. I'm not sure it makes an accuracy difference, but I sleep better at night because of the integral tenon design. Both my tubeguns (one with each action) are hammers...

Eliseo Tube Gun Action - Pierce or Defiance? Need advice.

I run an RTS with a trued Remington Action and an RTM with a Defiance Mutant action. Great rifles, great stocks! I like the Mutant very much.

    6.5 slr info and reports

I like my 6.5SLR very much. Performance is very similar to the 260 Rem, but the brass does not need to be trimmed as often, and headspaces better. Very accurate. What else would you like to know?

Movie Theater Question about the movie "Shooter"

If you want a great author for guns and action writing, look no further than Larry Correia. He has three book sin the Monster Hunter International series that are very gun intensive. Zombie, monsters, guns, etc. . . Great books, highly recommended! His latest two have been in the Grimnoir...

    .284 win help

I loaded up three dummy rounds of the desired length and sent that to my gunsmith when he was doing the chambering. He measures off that to cut the throat and leade to fit the desired bullet at the correct seating depth. The funny part of the story is that I approximated a 3.1" length, and...

I am new here, and interested in a Tube gun

I own two of his chassis, an RTS and an RTM. I am a big believer in them. They take the bedding and hassle out of the equation, and just plain shoot. Very stable, very accurate. One is in 6.5 SLR and the other is in 284 Win. Go with a medium Palma barrel contour. I have HV contours, and...
