    17hmr Match Grade ammo

Then could you inform me how match .22 LR ammo would be different? The way I see it, the manufacturers might have to slow the line down a tad, make more consistent cases, apply more consistent amount of primer compound, more consistent powder throws and consistent bullets and seating. To me...

Gunsmithing Is full Bedding of the Action Necessary?

But it does take more time. A lot of builders feel that in order to have a bedding job that won't chip out too easily, .015" or more clearance is necessary. In order to get that, some stock material needs to be removed from the area from the recoil lug all the way back. Then heaven forbid any...

Have you tried altering your bullet seating depth yet?

Gunsmithing Is full Bedding of the Action Necessary?

I've done the full action before, but to me just doing the front including the recoil lug and the rear worked just as well and easier. I've a couple of AICS that I had to do the rear tang only to cut down on vertical stringing. Maybe I'm lazy, but it worked for me. Btw, these are Remingtons...

    Gunsmithing Twisted rem 700 action

Most actions that I've seen twisted (which can be counted on less than one hand) is between the breech bridge and the rear bridge. I'm assuming that is where the damage was done. I personally would have no qualms shooting such an action, if it could be straightened to function and kept true...

    17hmr Match Grade ammo

Definitely would like to see consistent moa or better with 20gr loads. Found out the other day that 17gr loads are unstable at 300yds out of my CZ (key holes), but the 20's are fine. Signed also.

Gunsmithing Polish back end of chamber

When a reamer has had a lot of use or has been resharpened, it can cut a slightly smaller (tighter) chamber.

    Gunsmithing Twisted rem 700 action

I guess I've been lucky at removing factory Remington barrels. The hardest one I've had to remove took four good whacks on the Wheeler action wrench handle with a heavy short handled dead blow. Of course I've only done about 15. One thing I've learned, is that you can get the action wrench too...

    Gunsmithing Trigger issues

Only problems I've had with Timney triggers is when I've used a PT&G bolt. Their bodies are slightly bigger than the factory's. I end up with bolt drag until I relieve the top of the sear.

    Critique my annealing..

When it reaches temp, it'll turn clear and yes, kinda melts.

    Critique my annealing..

I brush the complete inside of the neck on about three pieces and let them sit for about a minute to dry. When dry, it'll have a light chalky look.

    Critique my annealing..

I use 750° Tempilaq on a Giraud, and like said, Lapua just changes to a different shade of gold. As long as your brass doesn't show a red (meaning you've cooked out some zinc) it should be good to go. If you do see some red, pinch the mouth hard between your thumb and second knuckle of your...

    6.5 47 lapua

I'm using 40.7gr of H4350, CCI 450 and 130 VLD. Velocity is 2866 fps out of a 26" Bartlein 5R. Bullet seated at the lands. 2.140" ogive measurement with I believe a .160" freebore. Very consistent low to mid .3's. The other day for grins, I had loaded 10 using the GM205M and 10 with CCI400...

Issues with -- New Remington 700 308 target tactical VTR 5R 26" VTR

I just went through this with Remington over a .223 LTR that was built in 2000 that I had shot out (approx. 7200 rnds). I'd asked them how much to rebarrel. Their reply was, "we don't rebarrel". What they had me do was send in the action without barrel (because I cut the chamber off to use as...

Gunsmithing 700 Long Action to 'Mid Action' mod

Yes, the original M24 as contracted by the Army was a long action.

Gunsmithing 700 Long Action to 'Mid Action' mod

I'm pretty sure it can be done, but why? Modify the bolt stop, put a spacer in the rear of the mag box and modify the follower and possibly the spring. At least that the route I'd be looking at, if I really thought it was a concern.

    Gunsmithing Cratering Primer

Is this by chance a Remington? I have a couple which crater about .003-.004" high. No problems unless you're blanking the primers, just doesn't look good. Remington use to bevel the firing pin hole from 2008-2010. The explanation I've heard is it moves extra material to the point of impact...
