    So you would suggest that it's not possible to build a "go to work" 7.62 AR below a certain weight? What is this magic number, and what is it about these guns that make them so much better specifically?

    I thought about an LMT but decided against it and went DPMS GII because the weight of the LMT seems a bit prohibitive to me in the battle rifle role. If they came out with a 7.5 pound version I would be interested. At that weight you're still pushing 10 pounds loaded up I suspect.

    What does that weigh set up like that? I'd be interested to see a picture of a SCAR with the adapter and a CTR or something like that...what's the stock/adapter weight combination in comparison to the OEM stock?

    It does. I shot it first in stock form, clamshell handguards etc. and it was crappy. In this configuration it's much better. I'm sure it does not help bystanders though... I blew up a Tula steel case round in it already and blew the magazine out the bottom; it was unscathed by that episode...

    You can use rails of the same diameter as an AR15 at least, which goes a long way toward making the gun feel smaller.

    Thanks, it weighs 7.2 pounds with a Vicker's padded sling. Waiting for a Weaver 1-5 for it...it should weigh about 8.5 pounds with that.

    The only problem with the Bushnell is that it's a lead sled. If you might want to actually carry this gun somewhere that's not going to help the situation.

    Right, I forgot the SCAR is made of titanium and lubed with unicorn tears... And I guarantee your minivan isn't as light as a Corvette either. :)

    My DPMS G2 with a Nikon Monarch X 2.5-10 and Vicker's sling is 9 pounds. I'll be switching it to a Weaver 1-5 this week, it should weight about 8.5 lbs. with that.

    The DPMS GII has the SCAR beat for lightness...but obviously the reliability is up in the air, probably not as good, at the very least not proven.

    I'm done with Tula myself. Had a ruptured case screw up my bolt gun and then tried it in my G2 and blew the magazine out the bottom. Brass XM80 at least for me from now on.

    He's referring to the possibility that the SCAR 17 eats optics due to a funny recoil pulse.

    My understanding is that there is also XM80 spec brass stuff that has bi-metal projectiles, so I don't think that problem is confined only to steel case stuff.
