Rifle Scopes Most reliable tracking and repeatability

I remember the original Razor. Nice turrets, etc but the eye box was tight with tunnel vision and you could not maintain a decent sight picture upon recoil, making it impossible to spot your shots. Similarly the glass in the original PST was so bad that it was tough to spot targets in less than...

    Spin Drift Data

So there is no empirical verification at all for an app such as Trasol? It would be nice if the sd calc could be turned off.

    Annealling?

After a number of firings I noticed variable seating depth associated with variable seating force. Annealing corrected this to achieve consistent results again. Now I run brass through the Annealeez after every firing rather than trying to keep up with a cycle.

    Spin Drift Data

JM the funny part is the high sd is calculated by Trasol, the best! JB this is for high bc/high velocity in 6.5 and 223. Other calculators do not give this much sd, and for these types of disagreements a little data would help.

    Spin Drift Data

Yes I have this book. I understand the concept, but am asking about actual data whereby this was measured. Data abounds regarding trajectory and velocity curves which are used to allow us to accurately calculate drop, and most shooters do well handling elevation. Wind is the nemesis, and sd is a...

OCW Results: Any Help is appreciated

The point of impact is too similar such that you did not achieve enough differentiation between the charges. Back up to 200yd an re-shoot, you need to observe distinct changes in vertical in order to find the node where poi is least affected.

    Spin Drift Data

My app shows .2 to .3 mil spin drift at 1000yd, and for smaller targets this is significant. Has anyone seen actual sd data reported, ie in a wind free tunnel, or is the calculation more theoretical. Many will argue sd is insignificant and can be ignored, but informed shooters just need to know...

    Correct truing method

Definitely utilize 3. And use multiple shots at each distance to obtain a good average. I would be leary about using a transonic point, not knowing if it would erronously bias the supersonic calcs.

    1" group over 5 grains

Go out to at least 200yd if you want see what is really going on. Difficult to obtain a clear indication at 100yd.

Advanced Marksmanship How do you take & organize notes?

Make as many notes as time allows. For me the most benefit has come from critiquing my performance, positive and negative, and writing this down in a separate journal. Especially documenting an action plan for what to change, evaluate, etc to insure proper focus going forward. To me the field...

    Hornady ELD-X

Do you Anneal? I had a similar issue and noticed the seating depth correlated to differences in seating force. Annealing fixed it for me.

Help with deciphering OCW test results

Air the objective of the ocw and ladder tests is not to look at group size, but to find the node where the differences you made in charge weight or seating depth result in the least change on the point of impact. This is achieved when the barrel harmonics are optimum, and result in best long...

140 gr RDF actual BC numbers

I have used both the G1 and G7 in different apps.Truing out to 1000yd required a slight increase above measured velocity. So the BC are pretty damned good.

    6.5x47 & 147gr ELD-M/140g RDF/Berger Hybrids

Testing the 140 eldm and rdf, my calculated vs actual dope out to 1000yd fits the advertised bc. For me the node is a little higher fps for the eldm, so even with a lower bc the actual dope is identical for both. At least as a first pass on steel. More testing tomorrow. So far I'm happy with...

    2000yrd SA round?

I shot my 6.5x47 at one mile with the 140 eldm. It handled the transonic transition well, grouping ok. The main problem is I ran out of clicks and reticle, and was winging the hold beyond the mil hashes.

    223 cartridge ?

The Wylde chamber has a longer freebore which lets you run higher charges before encountering pressure problems; just work up the charge safely. You should be able to push 75gr bullets 3000fps for great trajectories out to 1000yd. 80gr too, but don't try 90gr unless you're prepared for lengthy...

    Wide swings in seating depth

I had a similar problem, to the extent I could also feel the difference in force when seating the bullets. Started annealing and problem solved.
