Hunting & Fishing Long distance wolf hunting

Cool. Maybe coyotes at the same time too?

Hunting & Fishing What is your go to knife in the field?

Me too. While I have a few customs I really cannot justify the cost for carrying in the field, hacking, etc with the potential of loss. In fact I have become more interested in quality cheap knives than customs.

Hunting & Fishing Help with 300wm comparison

Hope you get in a lot of practice to take a 700yd shot. But don't just practice the shot; also practice bipod deployment, getting into a stable position, etc; that is all factors needed to quickly setup for a shot and get the animal in the scope, and adjust the drop. Preparation to shoot is as...

    Advanced Marksmanship Supporthand and rearbag

The bench rest crowd shoots free recoil; only the front and rear rests contact the rifle, then a minor pull on the very light trigger without touching anything else. With their very small groups, you can't argue that it works for that scenario.

Range Report Need help interpreting my first Chrono results

Did the target give you the desired flat spot? I believe in barrel harmonics, positive compensation, which yield this. I would never use the chrono over the target to make a load choice.

Criterion makes nitrided barrels for your application, give them a call.

Rifle Scopes Why most of us have MIL scopes but accuracy is expressed in MOA?

Back to the original question, NRA target scoring rings are in moa increments, and are consistent from short to long range. NRA classification is based upon how well one scores against this standard.

Strelok Pro works well, dope matched Trasol when it worked.

Advanced Marksmanship Zero Shift - One Month of Tracking

This is one aspect the dot drill is aimed at helping. Stand up and rebuild position for each shot, that will show you the human influence. Unless your day-to-day zero is worse, then your rifle system is not likely at fault.

Why do my groups look like this?

In addition to dry firing to address trigger pull and NPA, you may have too much cheek pressure which pushes the rifle butt sideways UPON RECOIL. That is this may not show up by dry firing alone, and you may need to experiment with less cheek pressure when shooting.

    Retirement rifle suggestions

While I have always hunted (300WM too), I got into shooting rifles when I semi-retired six years ago. Due to general overall application the first purchase was a 308, but it is shot very seldom now. For general practice out to 1000yd I like a 223, and for serious shooting a 6.5x47. Surprisingly...

Remington 700 Aftermarket Trigger Compendium Database

Thorough review, thks. I would like to see your similar evaluation of the Timney Tactical, which I think is a great value for the money as it is only a few dollars more than the 510.

F T/R Competition Opinions on F-T/R low budget stock

I started with a Manners T4A, fit and shot well. Switched to a custom stock for a year and could never get as comfortable. The T4A was in use on a tac rifle. Having a couple of Choates on older training rifles I have learned these are comparable ergonomically to the T4A so I added another on the...

Rifle Scopes Sub $400-450 Low Light Hunting Scope

For years I hunted with a factory refurbished Nikon Buckmaster 4x12x50 that had very good optics for $250. Shot a hog at night at 100yd using a small flashlight, no problem making a head shot.

Bighorn TL3 / XLR Shouldered and Prefit Switch barrel testing/review

A number of us have been using CBI barrels in F-class for several years now, and due to the success more are jumping onto the bandwagon. Some are using Savage actions, myself and friends are using Stiller with the Remage setup because of the increased availability of aftermarket parts. We win...

    Choate stocks

I moved my Manners T4A from my Ftr onto a tac rifle, and use the Choate on Ftr now. It shoots just as well and the dimensions are virtually the same once you add another butt spacer (or to get the lop you desire). Now I have 3 Choates, which cost about the same as one T4A. Had a custom made...

Rifle Scopes SFP Scopes for Hunting

I have the Sightron SIII 6-24 ffp on my hunting rifle now. It has great optical quality in low light. For a couple of years I twisted the turrets regularly, using it for tactical shoots. Glass is superior to the original PST, but haven't compared to the gen2. Still one of my favorite scopes.

    Gunsmithing 700 remage

A number of us are doing quite well running CBI barrels on Stiller actions (700 clone) in Fclass, yes with the barrel nut. I even got a free barrel from CBI for setting a NRA record; not too shabby for "home made" rifles.
