Starting a Savage 12FV build; Have some painfully newb questions about stock bedding...

Also check out the Choate stock. Full length bedding block and for end rail. A little heavy but solid as a tank.

Rifle Scopes Scopes with high clarity at high magnification

I use one for Fclass. We typically have bad mirage all year and using the 35mm objective cap it cuts through nicely, and I usually run 45X in all conditions. It is better than my previous SIII, which is an excellent scope for the money.

Yep. But this is my only app that has ever had a problem with updates, including all the freebies.

    Desert Tech TRASOL Official Thread

Like a box of Cracker Jax there's always a surprise when you open Trasol. It worked fine on my Droid for about a year. Suddenly the decimal point has disappeared from the keypad when attempting to enter numbers rendering the app useless to update bullets, loads, etc. Other functionality...

    223 version of the RPR

You should know by now that RPR is perfection, IOR is junk, Tiborsorus Rex is a fraud; still undecided about Trasol.

    Varmint build- would like help

If you go with 22-250 a higher twist to handle heavier bullets may help; you could run heavies slower (less powder) and reap the advantages of higher BC vs velocity.

Scott Parker Beam Scale or high end digital balance

Unless you are an absolutely world class caliber shooter spending much more money to upgrade from the tuned beam will not do squat for you. It is easy to distinguish .03gr on my beam; and yes the higher end digitals have better resolution, but in reality what good will it do for most cases? I...

Shoot first and have fun. You will learn more about what you want and need.

    Velocity change with Varget

Blend all you have together to make one large lot, and use that before tweaking your load. As you purchase additional powder, I have always maintained a "running blend" of the new with the old and the resulting differences have been small enough that I have not noticed a shift at all. Its a...

Rifle Scopes Utg pro 34mm rings

Given a free return policy I ordered a set. Very heavy duty, as I recall steel. No noticeable machining deficiencies and the surfaces mate together well and on the rail too. Screws fit uniformly, no slop. Let's face it, machining a set of rings is not demanding and primarily requires not letting...

Help me decide a direction of build?

Dog there are a couple of factors you need to consider. If you want to use factory ammo, be sure you can get suitable ammo. For example the 6.5 Creed by Hornady is a known good load and decent price. Then based on what you think you want to shoot, if you are contemplating using an existing...

Help me decide a direction of build?

Your planned shooting interests aren't clear, except you mentioned LR; what does that mean to you? While I have better suited rifles I love shooting my 223 at 1000yd; no issues with controlling verticle but the wind can be a challenge. Your old Savage can be easily and economically updated. It...

    round count for development?

Google Audette ladder test and OCW load development to see very popular methods. These do not focus on group size, but a node as determined by minimal change in poi. Personally I use 2 shots per charge at 200 yards and observe clear node definition, much better than 100 yards.

Rifle Scopes Frustrated & Exhausted! - New Member Needs Your Optics Wisdom

For what its worth I was older than you when I jumped into long range and prone shooting. I've read many recommendations, looked through many scopes, and owned several. While I've upgraded over time one of my favorites is still a Sightron 6-24 ffp; optical clarity is great, the reticle is...

Inclinometers / bubble canting devices. worth it for long range rifle shooting, is plumb line enough?

While cant is important, watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iChDlTNmk0I and then decide if you think a bubble is more accurate than the human sensory perception. Especially if you are shooting a timed exercise, moving targets, etc. To setup the scope on your rifle, nothing will define...

Inclinometers / bubble canting devices. worth it for long range rifle shooting, is plumb line enough?

Watching thlr YouTube videos, the Norwegian dude, he demonstrates your perception looking a scope is a more sensitive level than a bubble level. My experience too.

Cheek Weld Pressure Help - POA changes

Yes. To elaborate, cheek pressure is a component of NPA. Upon pulling the trigger and recoil is initiated, the muzzle will be directed based upon those factors violating NPA. I have a tendency to use heavy cheek pressure to achieve a steady aim, but then do not maintain squeezing the rear bag...

Range Report Range Report: 243 Win - 110 SMK - 8 twist barrel - No go

With a lot of vertical dispersion there are two major possibilities. First the velocity variability is excessive?. Second you did develop a load within a node?

    New 223 rig

Sweet, you are going to love it.
  20. CharlieNC

I want to shoot .223 at 750-1000 yards.

The 75 Amax has much higher BC than the BTHP, which will suffer stretching to 1000yd.
