    Best Bang for My Buck???

PTG should still have Rem actions they have trued and installed their bolts for less than $400 including trigger. The barrel threads are only chased such that you can use a prefit barrel from CBI; including barrel nut and recoil lug under $400. The stock is a very personal choice, and for the...

    rear bags with bunny ears

Years ago I found a bunny ear bag made from nylon and filled with plastic pellets, which does enable squeeze adjustments for elevation. It can also be turned on all sides for major changes. I've tried many other conventional shaped bags and prefer this one. It is less sensitive to my error of...

Load Development in High Ambient Temperatures

Dave the mirage at my range is usually bad too. I do load development at 200 yards because the POI movement is much more pronounced than at 100 yards. But the ability to clearly see and hold on target is not significantly worse at 200 vs 100, whereas stepping out to 300 gives a major...

    .223 long range

Going to the range tomorrow. Shooting the 75Amax at 1000yd again. Using a magazine. From a 22" barrel. At 300feet above sea level. The only issue will be the wind. Just do it.

    Re-loading factory ammo?

A few years ago I read a post by a shooter who unloaded factory rounds, noting considerable variability in powder weight. I don't recall the brass prep. After accurately weighing the same powder and using the same bullets, seating uniformly, the shooting performance was much improved. I believe...

    Recommendations for 223 bolt rifle

Remington trued action by PTG for approx $380 on sale. CBI barrel ( contour, length, twist your choosing) recoil lug, and barrel nut for approx $420. This barreled action will be tough to beat! That leaves $700 for a decent stock/chassis with dbm.

PRS Talk 120 eld vs 140 eld.

I switched from the accurate 123 Scenar because it requires nearly 50% more windage as the 140RDF. Long range target performance is noticeable better. In terms of recoil I don't notice any difference.

Anyone else pick up a 5R Recently

My buddy has one, and with a new trigger it shoots great. BUT it was the roughest bolt to open I have ever seen. A bad batch of Win primers cratered the bolt head pretty bad so he had that corrected, bushed, and bolt timing corrected; now its smooth. I don't know of anything that would aggravate...

    Which beam scale?

I bought tuned scale from Scott a few years ago, as my old one got trashed. At that time he liked the new Redding, and it has done well for me. You can try him to see if he has any tuned scales ready to ship; if not it will be a long wait to have one done as he is very busy.

FIXED, thanks Can't get Kestrel to match true Data

It will take 5 minutes to do a tall target test. Since you have ruled out other factors its worth putting this factor to rest or it could plague you forever.

223 Hornady 75gr ELD Match: better than 175 SMK 308?!

I just stocked up on 1000 of the 75 Amax to shoot, they run great out to 1000yd for me. Hearing the eld is a bit sleeker, they will be on the load development block later this year. With excellent vertical dispersion, the wind is a bit more challenging than the 308 but much more fun to shoot all...

Range Report 139 Lapua Scenars: Time to move on?

For a couple of years I shot the 123Scenar in my 6.5x47. While it was accurate, when the 140ELD and RDF came onto the market I decided to give those a try to buck the wind better. The RDF is the best of the three for my rifle, and is much more forgiving in the wind. Happy to just pick up 500 for...

Any reviews of TiborasaurusRex's YouTube Vids?

I've been to a couple of top name Advanced LR shooting schools. Both spent one half day getting your dope, which should be a prerequisite. Fundamentals of mil vs moa, basic use of a ballistic calculator. These and similar topics are more thoroughly covered by Rex and other online sources. To me...

good options for cheaper .223 brass

Once fired Lake City is excellent, and has the highest water capacity. There are several places that sell it sized and primer pockets swaged, ready to load. I shoot a lot of Lapua too in matches as a confidence booster, since it doesn't shoot better as far as I can tell.

Hunting & Fishing Elk rifle suggestions.

I have an old Tikka695 in 300WM. Always hated sighting it in. Then six years ago I began shooting as a hobby, annually putting a few thousand 223 rounds down range from the prone. Now that I have learned to shoot the 300 is not a big deal; don't shoot it often but the skills apply. That old...

    22-250 Match/Fun Gun?

Pusher you will have very similar drops even out of a 223. I run the 75A max at 3025fps to match my 6.5 out to 900yd, but of course the windage is 2X. Cheap, fun rig to shoot with excellent verticle out to 1000yd where it then deteriorates out further. For my Ftr rifle I shoot the 80.5 Berger...

Rifle Scopes Quality MIL FFP hunting options in the +/-1000$ range

I've been shooting a Sightron SIII 6-24 ffp mil for several years. Turrets are dead on and without any problems. The optical quality is better than any other scopes I have looked through that cost over twice as much, which is especially important for hunting and low light conditions. Around $750.

PRS Talk To Clarify My Earlier Statements - Death to Precision Rifle the Sequel

Good to hear that Brian. I will try to do some positional practice and enter a local PRS match later this year, strictly for fun. Saving the serious practice for ftr where its easier to just lay in one spot.
