    muzzle jump 300 win mag

Unlikely you will ever completely eliminate muzzle hop completely on a 300WM. If you can spot your misses at 500yd then you are doing good.

Calculator results drastically different than DOPE

A consistent error of 0.6 mil across multiple ranges is suspicious. Someone had a very similar issue a while back, and after many unproductive ballistic calculator mods the problem went away after the scope was removed and reinstalled. Go figure.

.223 Trainer Build on Rem 700, .223 or .223 AI, Smithed or Prefit?

Out to 900yd my 223 elevation dope is nearly the same as my 6.5x47, which is very nice for a trainer. You can often get a CBI Remage Prefit off the shelf from Northlander. These shoot great and do well in Fclass accuracy.

    Bifocals - WTF

Lasik. Still need readers unless I write my dope large, and to dial some turrets. Hated the bifocals when doing this.

What's your favorite App for 2017 (iOS & Android)?

I get identical results with Strelok and Trasol. I like some added features on Trasol, but cannot get answers on basic functions. No support equals no vote.

    Next cartridge to try?

Since you have both 6 and 6.5mm, you need to get a 223 to really have something different. Once fired LC brass, cheap bullets, minimal powder makes it cheap to shoot. I run 75Amax in a 22" barrel at 2950fps, and the trajectory out to 800yd is identical to my 6.5x47. Drop is a bit more out to...

    .223 long range

Give the 75Amax a try to see if your barrel will stabilize it. Also RL15 or CFE223 will provide higher velocity. That will get to 1000yd supersonic, and you will have fun playing the wind.

Need a new reloading kit! Everything for extreme LRS!

In addition to what comes with a decent kit, get a comparator (Hornady or other) to measure bullet jamb/seating length and headspace. This seems to be one of the most overlooked aspects when starting out; I certainly needed to backfill in this area after a couple of learning experiences. Also...

    Range Report 300yd group question

That is a very good start to qualify your potential. As mentioned more shots tell the story. I was satisfied until I practiced to shoot my first Fclass match at 300yd, with three relays of 20 shots each; and I learned it is much more difficult to get good groups of 10-20 shots. Now instead of...

    F T/R Competition Optics Help

That's why I called Norm to clear up my confusion because I had been told it was moving from Oct 18 to 11th. The state championship match was last weekend at Butner; I guess that was the conflict they wanted to avoid. Catawba website still shows 18th as well.

    F T/R Competition Optics Help

BC I talked to Norm this week for clarification and the told me they stayed with 18th after-all since there was not a conflict with Butner. Leaving for a hunt on 18th so I will miss the match. Thanks for the offer.

BC you are right about the tape; and the sun angle during the third relay made that especially worse. Funny how such factors that you would not ordinarily think of can have such an impact; that's what experience is all about. One thing I learned last time is take the time to checkout gear and...

    F T/R Competition Optics Help

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm pretty well set on everything now thanks to this forum except the scope upgrade. My 4-20 actually served OK at 300 until the final relay when fatigue began to set in; at 65 the eyes and energy aren't up to par like when I was a young 55! Yes these are handloads...

    F T/R Competition Optics Help

Now that's a creative video! The severity of the mirage using 36x st 300 yd surprised me, and it is often bad at our range. So a variable power is certainly in my future. Now to decide whether to stick with the 223 or maybe switch to my 6BR.

    F T/R Competition Optics Help

In a few weeks I will participate in my second match, which is 300 yds again. Did ok the first time (581) using my Weaver 4-20 x 50 on the Savage 223; assessing areas for improvement I had issues resolving the x ring as the day progressed. Had a booster lens attached to get around 25X, and I...

Barrel Bedding: Yes or No (troubleshooting hot barrel vertical stringing)

Typically suggested to float rather than bed a Savage tang. Also only the back of the recoil lug should contact the bedding, esp not the bottom. How's yours done?

    6.5 47 lapua

I'm getting 2900 with 140 hunting VLD and 40.5 using Power Pro 2000MR. Also my best powder for 123 Scenar paper / steel target shooting long distance. Barrel is 26" Bartlein.

Questions about sizing with collet die

You can monitor with a headspace comparator, and watch for the case to grow as you neck size. At some point the case will likely become tight to bolt (yes, check before loading) and based on that measurement you will know as you approach this in the future to FL size.

Just got a Savage hog hunter .308. Should i bed it or buy a new stock

JB Weld for bedding plus Kiwi clear shoe polish as release agent and you can do yourself on the cheap. Stock already has pillars. On Savage float the tang too. Follow directions online and you are good to go. Plenty of articles on Savageshooter.com.
