    Schneider Barrels question....

    The last Schneider I bought was 320.00 plus shipping. It was ordered direct and I got it in 8 weeks last summer. The first 3 shot group was in the .3's with a #5 sporter in 7-300wm. I've owned 10-12 Schneider barrels and all would shoot well under 1/2".

    To Muzzle Brake or NOT to muzzle brake.

    If a brake makes you shoot more accurately then by all means do it. For me I shoot just about everything better with a brake but I've been using them for 20+ years and have them on everything from a .223 to a .458 Lott. When you do your own metal work it makes the decision easier too.

    Gunsmithing Reamer Malfuction

    I wonder if the reamer material was bad and the flute that broke cracked the first time it grabbed. I would send it back to who ever the manufacturer was to let them have a look at it after a phone call to explain what happened.

    It would be pretty easy to cut the throat with throating reamers but either way would work if the tool has enough clearance to cut it. It will be interesting to see the outcome.

    I sent your brake yesterday Wes. The .875" brake is the only one designed to be turned down and it can be turned down as small as .800". They were designed that way for the numerous barrel contours in the .800-.860" muzzle diameter range.

    The Edge data is rather weak. 84.5grs of H1000 with 300's @ 2600fps when most people shoot 88-91grs for 2800fps.

    You can knock the primers out by hand with a stem out of a die. I have several cases I do this for because I don't size them at all for several firings. I just knock the primers out and start reloading.

    I personally like to go as big as I can and would probably do 11/16x24 or 3/4x24. 5/8x24 is plenty big as well, I just don't like removing anymore material then I have to.

    Re: Defiance Machine vs. Nesika? A friend had his last Defiance in 10 days. They are sweet actions. The .338 Lapua actions are a Remington 700 foot print unlike most others which are larger diameter. They do have a .750" bolt but run 1 1/16x16 threads like a Remington too.

    Re: Canted muzzle brake? So the brake isn't straight with the barrel? Technically if the bore in the brake is straight with the rifle bore it should be fine but if the brake was installed that crooked I would want it fixed.

    Re: Muzzle Brake/Compensator Installation Question My opinion is it should be installed by a gunsmith. That is the best way to get the correct fit for it. Does it mean that is the only way to do it? No it doesn't. Many people have installed them with shims if they are ported and have to be timed.
