    7mm-08 or 284 in SA w/AI mags

Re: 7mm-08 or 284 in SA w/AI mags Use Seekins WSM bottom metal and you can load out to 3.1". It does take a little machine work on your action to fit it, but the advantage is well worth it. Seekins says it will feed 284 just fine. The 7-08 is no slouch at 1K either though.

    Gunsmithing truing a rem 700??

Re: truing a rem 700?? Silly or not if a customer still wants a fully tricked out 700 over a custom action give him what he wants or somone else will. Dry runs keep you from crashing. Double and triple check as need be. Havn't hurt one yet. Knock on wood! There was a guy on Benchrest.com a...

    Gunsmithing truing a rem 700??

Re: truing a rem 700?? It really comes down to how good your particular action is. Ive seen a few {very few} really good 700s with .003"-.004" bolt clearance. Those actions absolutly bennefit from single pointing. I've also seen some real crappers with .008" to .012" {the worst I've ever seen...

    Gunsmithing Another 40X question....

Re: Another 40X question.... Oneshot, glad you got a good one. Some are and some arn't. Some 700s are fantastic and some are sloppy as a garbage can. So you know. Remingon is a union shop. The custom shop employees are there by seniorty NOT skill level. I have worked on a lot of custom shop...

    Gunsmithing Another 40X question....

Re: Another 40X question.... 40Xs are not built to better tollerances than 700s, so all you would have after converting it is.....drum roll......a 700! Sell that 40X off and just buy a 700, or better yet buy a custom action.

Dumb question about Rem. 700 bolts

Re: Dumb question about Rem. 700 bolts Ditto to what Willian said. There is alot of variance in dimentions in 700s.

    Gunsmithing truing a rem 700??

Re: truing a rem 700?? If your running a stock bolt either way will work fine, the stock Remington clearances will never use the advantage of the more accurate single point method. If your sleeving the bolt or using an oversize bolt, then single point would be the best way to go. If you use...

    Gunsmithing Xmark Pro Question

Re: Xmark Pro Question The bottom screw is the home owner adjustment. It does not give much change, and you can take it out without any problem. It still needs a real trigger job with the other three screws inside the stock area.

    Gunsmithing weak gunsmith-fu?

Re: weak gunsmith-fu? The headstock of his lathe may be too long. This is a common problem. My lathe only does barrels to about 20". Call another gunsmith if you don't want the barrel removed.

Gunsmithing 7mm-08 reamer and heavy bullets...

Re: 7mm-08 reamer and heavy bullets... Ask Kiff what his neck dia is. Most 7-08 reamers seem to come with huge necks with .008-.010 total clearance. Seekins DBM have an internal oal of 2.950" which helps get that bullet out of the case a little. But it still leaves a lot stuffed below the...

    Gunsmithing Bedding for COLD BORE

Re: Bedding for COLD BORE I doubt the pad had anything to do with it. The bedding was probably just not right. I never bed with a pad on a floated barrel. The F class guys are hanging 32" 1.25" straight bull barrels on Remmingtons with no pad. If a barrel like that doesn't need a pad well why...

Re: Would like to hear from owners of Rifle Basix I've been using one for about four months now. It doesn't break like a Jewell, but it's a nice trigger. I'm happy with it.

    Gunsmithing Milling Machines

Re: Milling Machines A full size mill has rigidity and power that a bench top does not. You can pull a trailer with a V6 Toyota or a Cummins diesel, which one would you prefer... A bench top will get the job done but once you've used a real mill you'll never go back. Also if your going to do...

    Gunsmithing Milling Machines

Re: Milling Machines You need a lathe and a mill to do what you want to. I build custom brakes for our shop on a weekly basis. If your patient you can find a decent mill for $1500-$2500. A DRO will make things go alot faster. If you were out my way I have a nice English made Balding knee mill...

    Gunsmithing Which Crown

Re: Which Crown What type of crown you use is far less important than how accuratly it is done. I single point all my crowns dialed in as close to zero as possible. That being said, a flat of flat/recessed crown is less sensitive to runout than an 11deg beveled type crown.

    Shipping a rifle

Re: Shipping a rifle If you use UPS, for your insurance to be good you have to also have delivery conformation and adult signiture. Don't ask how I know! They will weasel out of a claim any way they can. Also insure for about 25% more than actual value as also like devalue your claim. We do...
