Gunsmithing Savages keep Gunsmiths in business.

Yet you still take the time to talk shit about them?

If you ever think you'll swap barrels, ask them if they will sell bolt heads separately. I've heard that they are not exactly supportive of the idea. Another note, you could use a prefit barrel from Pacnor or Criterion with the barrel nut and have the perfect union of Savage and Remington...

Gunsmithing Savage Large/small barrel shank question

Measure the barrel right where it exits the nut. 1.2" is large shank, 1.055" is small shank. Large shanks were only on WSM and RUM's prior to the precision target actions. Standard shank nuts are 7/8" (0.875") in length, whereas large shank nuts are 5/8" (0.625") in length.

    Gunsmithing Savage 111 re-barrel

Control round feed bolt heads for a long action are pretty rare. They were only offered with the RUM's. If you find a bolt head that was for a 300win or 7RM, that would be 99% the correct one.

Gunsmithing Savage trigger bolt release, switch to old?

Re: Savage trigger bolt release, switch to old? You'd have to grind the side of the action off where the old style bolt release lever is. They did it to save money. Less machining.

Gunsmithing DIY savage bolt lift kit...

Re: DIY savage bolt lift kit... You left your BAS loose? It needs to be tight to hold the handle on. If it's tight and you didn't trim it or shim it, you added more preload on the firing pin spring and you won't see much difference. You've got to do everything, and you have to do it right...
