    Savage Impulse 1 year update

Thanks. I'm (probably unnecessarily) anal about torqueing evenly and consistently. Good and tight is probably just as good.

    Savage Impulse 1 year update

@shoots100 what did you figure out for torque values for the 4 screws that clamp the barrel extension inside the receiver? -- I've not been able to find anything. There's this thread, which has no answers besides "figure out what kind of bolt it is, then ask the internet"...

    How Many Firings???

If a new primer still goes in snug, they are likely ok. If you use a hand primer, you should be able to tell by feel if some should go into the 'fire one last time and chuck' pile. Of course you'd want to look them over for split necks and other defects. If you are able to, annealing them...

    Hard extraction 6.5 prc

When you first developed the load, was it with virgin brass? If so, it's usually undersized and the first shot spends some of its energy expanding it to the chamber walls. Or maybe your headspace was larger previously -- same idea. You could also be developing a 'carbon ring' in the throat, or...

243 Win 58 grain vmax powders

If you don't already have H4895, you may not be able to get it. As for finding powders that will work, try the Hodgdon site: https://www.hodgdonreloading.com/reloading-data-center They list a ton of powders for the 58 vmax.

243 Win 58 grain vmax powders

Funny, I am currently working up a nearly identical load (243, 20" 9 twist, 58v-max). I tested Varget and H4895. It may be just the lots I have, but I found H4895 to be much faster across the board. 43.0 grains gave me about 3850 fps out of a 20" barrel, whereas 44.0 grains of Varget (both...

Hunting & Fishing Let’s start a coyote thread.

87 vmax is a solid choice. Killed dozens with 243, 6 Creed and 6 Grendel. I'm not sure about the 108 ELDM yet. Dropped several like a bag of dirt, but had one that must have not expanded at all. He was double lunged and ran 40 or 50 yards before deciding he was dead.

    What do I have here?

Wish I had friends like yours. Those steel things with 4 die holes are called tool heads. I see 6 of them. They go for $20+ new, so maybe $15 apiece. There's two with powder measures attached. Maybe $100 each. Some primer pickup tubes. Not much. Hammer-looking thing is a bullet puller. Not...

    Savage Impulse

I picked up an Impulse Predator in 243, and finally shot it yesterday. Impressions: The action is a lot smoother than I expected. -- Ample amounts of Hornady One Shot may have influenced that. Ejection (which is something that has plagued Savage bolts) is excellent. It really chucks those...

Hunting & Fishing Let’s start a coyote thread.

Not sure where you are, but when it's cold AF (-10 and lower) they will be more willing to work with you. IME snow can also influence how far they're willing to travel. If it's deep and soft, they have a hard time getting around, and won't venture as far. If it's hard / crusty where they can...

    22 Creedmoor Varmint Rifle questions

    22 Creedmoor Varmint Rifle questions

@DIBBS how did this turn out? I'm looking into 22 Creed for yotes, and trying to figure out optimal barrel length considering a 9" can. I was thinking 18" or 20". Going to try 53 v-max, and maybe 73 or 80 eld.

    Perpetual Motion?

Yeah, the ball going down the ramp and flying back looks suspicious... It's too fast. Edit: I won't completely spoil this for everyone, but there is a youtube video...

I agree that most of it seems pretty random, but a warning howl / bark is pretty hard to mistake. It means they're not exactly sure what you are, but you're busted.

Never tried the 60s, but the 53s are awesome out of a 22-250. They'll be less explosive out of the slower 223, but I'm sure they'd be more than adequate.

They won't need any help finding it, but depending on how safe they feel about the area, they may only be on it at night. However, until it's gone, they'll be in the area, so doing a set nearby is not a bad plan.

Put it somewhere you can sneak into, and also doesn't leave the coyotes exposed in the wide open. And you probably want to secure it somehow, or they'll just drag it off. A cow works better.

Well, if you need another beta tester, let me know. I got a Predator in 243. I want to rig up a 22-250 barrel for it.

@shoots100 You have any updates on this? Has the quick change barrel kit continued to work well? Does your machinist friend have any plans of producing and selling them?

Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Savage and Tikka are some I know where the safety locks the bolt. I'm sure there are others. If the SRS was like that, we'd not be having this conversation.
