    Who "crimps?"

Oh, forgot to mention one other problem I found with crimping. I've noticed the necks of my brass grow longer with crimping. This results in more frequent trimming and also more material removed when trimming. Sounds like some of you are way better than I when it comes to crimping. LOL What...

    Fed up with stuck cases

I got so frustrated with stuck cases that I've either transitioned my dies to Dillon Carbide dies or had my other brand of dies titanium nitrided. Then with Imperial Sizing Wax, my stuck case problems are gone forever.

    Who "crimps?"

I generally don't crimp for my autoloading rifles. Here is the problem I found with crimping. The walls of different brands of brass have different thicknesses. Winchester brass has thinner walls while Remington and Hornady has thicker walls. When I crimp brass from different manufacturers...

    Any regrets going custom?

I had a regret with going custom. For my very first custom, I thought I wanted "Ultimate Accuracy" so I had one built with in .300 Win Mag with a 26" Rock Creek AMU contour barrel with a JP Recoil Eliminator threaded on. Well, be careful what you wish for because I got my wish. The gun was a...

Decisions decisions... New to long range shooting

Well, for your 300 range, more velocity isn't going to make that much of a difference. Assuming your current scope is MOA and each click is the standard 1/4 MOA, we are looking at just 8 clicks up for 200 and about 15 to 16 clicks up for 300. And it works out the same between my .223 and .308...

Remington 700 .308win build. Ideas please!

I got one of these: XLR Industries | evolution They are awesome for letting me pose and attract an audience at my local range. If you want to go to 1000, you might want to use this to polish the inside of your factory barrel: FF kit 308 cal - David Tubb Then you reload with 175 grain match...

    I have a 26" Rock Creek M24 contour 5R barrel.

Decisions decisions... New to long range shooting

Heh...glad to oblige. Many of us had gone down numerous blind alleys when we walked the customization path. If you got money burning a hole through your wallet, first ask yourself, is your rifle comfortable to shoot currently? One distinct advantage I noticed between my customized tacticool...

    Heavy 300 winmag velocities

My accuracy long for the SMK 220gr uses 65.4 grains of RE22 powder. Compared to my accuracy load for the Hornady 180gr SST of 74.4 grain of RE22 powder, the 180 grain kicks harder due to the increased powder. Velocity for the 220gr I Chronied at 2740 fps while the 180gr does 3080 fps. To look...

Weaver base? Why not a picatinny base? The slots in the weaver are too close together to accept picatinny rings. Weaver rings can fit on picatinny bases but not vice versa. I've learned this the hard way.

Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Way too low. I had the Near 1.35" and it was way too low to the point where I had to mash my face into the stock to see through the scope. You need something close to 1.5". I'm running 1.49" Badgers which is ok. But I'm getting some Murphy custom 1.53" cut for my DTA.

Decisions decisions... New to long range shooting

Your gun looks like it already shoots pretty well with your custom loads. I'd say just go and shoot farther out. If your scope isn't up to snuff, that would be the thing to replace. Usually what I find is when shooting farther out, my auxiliary equipment becomes my limiting factor. For...

Rifle Scopes Best AR optic for the $ 1-8, 1-10, or 2.5-10

I run the March 1-10X on my long range AR. It is probably one of the smallest and lightest of the bunch.

Do All AR15 Lowers Accept Both Commercial and Mil Spec Buffer Tubes?

Hi, I was reading that the Commercial and Mil Spec Buffer tubes have different diameters. So I was wondering, do the AR lowers accept both kinds of buffer tubes? Looking at the various manufacturer websites doesn't seem to provide me any clue on what kind of buffer tube do the lowers accept...

Rifle Scopes New Bushnell XRS 4.5-30x50 34mm

I looked through the XRS at the NRA Convention. I think it is a step down from the HDMR image wise. I had high expectations and felt like a leaky balloon afterwards. I'll be keeping my HDMR, which I think is one of the best scope Bushnell has ever made.

    Disappointed with "expensive" spotting scopes

The chromatic aberration is what washes out the bullet holes at long range. The best test is to put the two side by side and try to spot bullet holes on a cloudy day (so the mirage doesn't skew the test). I've had scopes where glancing through the glass doesn't provide the oomph feeling but...

Something special from Bushnell Tactical (spotter)

I looked through this one at the NRA Convention and found this spotter to be much more compelling than Nightforce's new spotter. Image was crisp and bright as far as I could tell given the confines and the scope was more compact.

New NF Spotter coming out ... TS-82

I got to play around with it at the NRA Convention. It's nice and clear but as far as I could tell, there wasn't anything about it that would make me want to give up my Pentax 100 PF. Now the BEAST, that's another story.
