    Hickok 45 compares $500 1911 vs $3000 1911

He apparently does pretty well at that. Some of his videos I enjoy, but others seem to drone on and on.

    Hickok 45 compares $500 1911 vs $3000 1911

I kept waiting for him to get to a point...he just seemed to ramble on and on and on and on....I guess he was killing time rather than getting to the point, and making a conclusion.

Gunsmithing After years of service, my Para finally decided to be cranky

The one issue I had with the mobil oil/transmission fluid for lubricant was that it too readily ran down and out of the pistol faster than I wanted. I read that mixing it with some compatible synthetic grease until the mixture reached the desired viscosity helped, so I tried it. They were...

Gunsmithing After years of service, my Para finally decided to be cranky

The green color cast you see on the gun is the OD green Cerakote I had applied. The gun is OD green with burnt bronze for the barrel, bushing, grip safety, and other small parts. I have never used WD40 on the gun. the lube I am using now is a 50/50 blend of mobil synthetic motor oil and mobil...

Gunsmithing After years of service, my Para finally decided to be cranky

Anb618, Replacing the pistol as a carry gun happened with the very first malfunction. When a pistol that has always run "like a Swiss watch" starts to get cranky, I won't carry it until it again works properly. I was a law enforcement firearms trainer for many years, and I used to stress...

Gunsmithing After years of service, my Para finally decided to be cranky

CLCustom: I have tried posting photos, and never had much luck with it. I'll try and see if anyone else in the house has better luck.

Gunsmithing After years of service, my Para finally decided to be cranky

Ordered a new magazine release from Brownell's today just to eliminate that as a possible cause.

Gunsmithing After years of service, my Para finally decided to be cranky

The gun has the a metal magazine release as I found that the plastic ones from Para don't last all that well, so I replaced all the plastic magazine catches. That doesn't mean that the metal one couldn't possibly wear out though... I have a number of para magazine catches, so I will try out...

Gunsmithing After years of service, my Para finally decided to be cranky

That is possible. I'm using extra power Wolff springs in the magazines, and they have always worked well. The magazines work just fine in other Para pistols, and the malfunctions don't seem to be associated with any one magazine. I had thought perhaps something to do with the extractor, but...

Gunsmithing After years of service, my Para finally decided to be cranky

For many years a Canadian built, alloy frame, Para Ordnance P13 was my duty gun, and it ran like the proverbial Swiss watch as long as I changed out the recoil springs often enough. However, recently, it has started having two unusual malfunctions that I have been unable to cure, or diagnose...

    Sidearms & Scatterguns Scored a HK P7 ?

I still kick myself for not buying the P7-M13 that the shooting team issued to me when I had the chance. When the team closed the sponsor (HK) offered all members the opportunity to buy the weapons that they had been issued at used gun prices. The only one I bought was the Benelli M1-Super 90...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Blued Steel & Wood in Rain

Museum wax works great to protect metal. I haven't tried it on wood yet, but suspect it would work well, however you would need to re-apply it any time it gets worn off. It is sort of like a really high tech hard car wax that seals wood and metal.

Sidearms & Scatterguns Old Solingen belt knife - help?

I would sharpen the knife, use some saddle soap to clean up the sheath, and call it good. Every scratch and mark on the knife shows it was used like it is supposed to be used. If the sheath leather has dried out you can re-oil it with vegetable oil. I had a saddle maker tell me that he used...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Need Laser Etching Buffed Out on Knife --Recommendations?

IIRC, the knife you are referring to isn't laser etched, it is electro etched where a decal with the acid is applied to the knife, and then electricity is applied to the knife. I don't think the electro etching goes as deep into the steel as a laser etch would. My guess is that the best way...

    Hello from western Washington

Eatonville is where Upper NIsqually 'sportsman's club is located. They have a 550 yard range that is open any day there isn't a match going on, and they have steel targets placed at various distances on that range. Last time I was there, steel was at 200, 350, 435, and 500 yards. Folks...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Suggestions for concealed carry rigs

Much depends on your carry position, holster and belt, not just the size of the pistol. I successfully carried a high capacity (13+1) 45acp 1911 style pistol, extra magazines and handcuffs concealed for many years. I'm only 5'8.5" tall and about 200 pounds..give or take a few. Much depends...

Virginia SB 240 Red Flag Passes Senate Floor Vote

The democrats in the VA state house (and in WA and OR too) don't really care what the pro-gun people want. They have their agenda and will push it forward because they believe that the gun owning public will complain, protest, and threaten, but ultimately will do nothing of substance as more...
