Solution for spotting hits at 1000 yard and beyond

I'm of the opinion that where you impact on a target is harder to control the farther out you shoot. Shooting 1700 yards + is a challenge unto itself. Unless you are loading ammunition with singe digit ES and SD of under 5 with bullets able to handle transonic/subsonic well, shooting in perfect...

    Timing self timing brakes

Shooting is an activity where you learn through experience what “is” important to you and what “is not”. My experience has taught me that having a brake “dead-nuts” level has little to do with how I shoot or manage recoil. Like others, I eyeball the ports from the top of the rifle to see if the...

Solution for spotting hits at 1000 yard and beyond

The Magneto Speed hit indicators are “all that and a bag of chips” and inexpensive when considering other options. Easy to set up and very visible at looooong distances; we use them on all targets 1000 yards and beyond. This said, the hit indicators are exactly that, “hit” indicators, and only...

Rifle Scopes Vortex AMG with 50 MOA base able to zero at 100 yards?

Since I didn't have the scope in hand to actually run the turrets, I had to go off what the manufacture/Vortex lists in their specs for the AMG. This said, the travel from one scope to another can vary as well...it's best to test the actual scope for travel to know exactly what is available to you.

Rifle Scopes Vortex AMG with 50 MOA base able to zero at 100 yards?

In answer to your question...the cant of your base AND rings should not exceed 1/2 of your scope's total travel. Of course there can be exceptions; an example would be where the internal travel of your scope is not truly as spec'ed but I would not count on that. So, in your case, the scope's...

    Need steel target advice

Like many above, I've used the various systems and find "T" posts to be the most convenient; no legs/crossbars, no brackets, no bolts and straps. That said and as you mention, some ground is not conducive to driving posts and for those places, I use a JC Steel rebar target stand. The...

    6.5x47 vs 6x47 WTF?

I've got both, both shoot very well and load workup was easy. I'm running Berger140 Hybrids over H4350 (2800 fps) in the 6.5x47L and in the 6x47L version, I'm running Berger 105 Hybrids over Varget (3060 fps).

    Gunsmithing Barrel Install Anti Seize

Whatever you use for the barrel will work for the muzzle brake as well. I remove my brakes every time I clean my rifle to rid the crown of carbon so easy removal is a plus. For all my rifles, except the BIG boomers, hand tight has been sufficient to avoid loosing.

300 prc vs 300 norma mag

Not quite sure where the picture of the PRC/Norma cases/rounds "clcustom1911" (post #19) came from but my PRC and .300 Norma Mag cases are not anything like the ones pictured. Here are the two cases I have for comparison; PRC left and Norma right. Easy to see the additional length of the PRC as...

    Accuracy with/without brake.

If you have identified the proper charge weight through your load workup, accuracy will be unaffected but you will probably have a POI shift when shooting with/without the brake.

    Gunsmithing 6 Dasher barrel

It’s my understanding that the throat, and first few inches of a barrel, takes the majority of the wear from heat/pressure while the muzzle wears from the friction of the bullet passing over it at maximum pressure. A gunsmith may have a more definitive answer but this is what I’ve been told.

    Gunsmithing 6 Dasher barrel

For $100, I’d probably give it a go. Don’t forget to take an inch or so off the muzzle as well.
